NCLEX, Medicate me

Im taking nclex on tues and Im in the same boat as you! I also have 3 kids, with my youngest being 4 months old. I havent focused much on meds because pharm is only about 10% of the test. So with that being said its not really as important as prioritizing, delegation, and med surg. I am to burnt out! I cant even focus on what im reading anymore and it makes me feel so depressed.

I hear you! I've got an RN meds book with 276 meds and there is just no way to know them all. So I'm focusing on the most common/important and what comes up in my reading and questions for now. As with the content, I'm feeling there is just no way to know it all there either and it is a bit daunting to say the least. I'm praying it'll be easier than it could be and with so many testing and passing all the time, perhaps our good deductive critical thinking skills will go a long way. Burn out is not good. I'm feeling the need to push harder but something is telling me to relax and focus and just do what you can without the stress. I'll be better off in the long run. You two are awesome with your ability to care for your families and do this at the same time!

Lol, I know what you mean about taking anti depressants! It definitly is not easy going through nursing school when you have kids, let alone when your pregnant like I was. I just keep telling myself that I have made it this far and that I will pass nclex because Im not a quitter, Im a go getter!! We will both concur this beast.

Guys, you will all be fine, and will ace the NCLEX. Just you watch.

Study the drugs by exception and interaction.

Have an opinion question. I have a classmate who passed NCLEX that states there are so many possible med's that can be on NCLEX that it's better to focus on the med-surg,/ delegation, prioritization material and perhaps just study the major/commonly prescribed drugs. I've been studying for last 12 weeks and I'm burning out, losing my focus.

I'm scheduled to take it 4/29 but I need to push it back 1-2 weeks. I'm very stressed about my slow progress and I'd really appreciate any advice. I have 3 young kids to juggle is 1 reason for slow progress.

Dont focus too much on meds...you can never remember it all (i am NOT studying to be a pharmacist)...focus more on the med-surge stuff....... delegation/prioritization...i just took the nclex RN and i had 3 drugs that i have never heard about...and I am an LPN.... i tried to check what class it was....the name...there were no clues....and it asked me what side effect it is?...(no way of knowing but i narrowed it down to unusual side effect or severly side effect).... how i studied fr phar? Glanced through the endings of common drugs..looked at the most common side effects....and when i did practice questions and got a drug question...i looked at that drug class...but i will NOT overstudy for pharm...

My suggestion would be to learn drug categories. For example, ACE inhibitors, loop diuretics, etc. All of the generic medications in each category have similar drug endings and similar side effects, actions, monitoring and adverse reactions. Hope that helps. New drugs are coming out by the minute and it is impossible to keep up. I find this method has been most helpful for me.
