My Kaplan Journey Nclex-PN

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi all,

I am making this thread to discuss my Kaplan journey. Brief history, I took my Nclex-PN and failed a week ago and after getting a lot of feedback, I decided to give Kaplan a whirl.

I am doing the classroom anywhere. It cost me 108/month, billable in 3 monthly payments.

I get 14 hours of live online teaching with a live teacher which starts 9/15-9/18.

I also get access to the Q-bank, tests, content, etc for 90 days.

If you have any questions, ask away! I will update as much as I can about how it's going!

Awesome, im sure this thread will help out a lot of future PN Nclex tester!

I hope so and like I said I will be 100% honest.

Hi, I would like to know how you liking the video content of Kaplan so far? Do you find it helpful?

Hi,

I dont have access yet. They said it takes 24-48 hours to get me setup in the system. Then I have the orientation stuff, a pre-test to see where Im at and whatever else before my live classes that start Monday. As soon as I get a chance to access it, I will let you know!

Thank you. Please do.

Dafishman, did kaplan give you a review book along with the review?

EBOOK, yes.

Ok, I wanted to give an update for all so far.

I had my live classes Mon-Thur of this past week. It was excellent. One live teacher, 2 assistant teachers who did the tech stuff but provided links, notes, etc. The live instructor (roy) was SUPER! He really knew his stuff and would answer questions and kaplan is known for the decision tree and he taught it very well.

In my opinion, the decision tree is super for people who are having problems narrowing down the choices and really understanding what the question is really asking you. Sometimes, a question may ask you 2 things, you need to look at the answers, see what they give you and then go back and you can identify what they really were asking. For me, this was critical.

The tree you wont learn overnight, after 4 days of using it, I feel a lot better but am not expert. Kaplan is all about YOU passing the NCLEX, the materials, the content videos, the free ebook, the accessibility of experts who you can email your questions to, I think for the 309 I paid, it is definitely worth it and throw in you can pay over 3 months, I couldnt be happier.

Now, I also ordered the physical hard cover book because its easier for me to study with that versus an ebook. The content videos, I watched a few but I will really start out tonight studying just about every day.

They give you a study plan based upon when you are taking your test. If you do what they outline, I think you will do good, or at least I HOPE SO!!!!!

The q-bank I havent even touched yet. I am going to be taking the pre tests soon and remediation they say is key.

The 4 nights we probably did about 200 questions. I swear that some of their questions were the SAME as I had on my Nclex. The only different were some of the answer choices were changed. Their questions hands down are so much more similar to nclex than hurst was for me.

They also stress that when you do the q-bank and get 60-65% you should be able to pass. Im curious to see what my pre-tests show me.

Also, they showed a tutorial on after you test you can go in and see what category the questions were in, the rationale, etc. It breaks it down very nicely for you. I havent taken a test or utilized it yet but tonight I plan on going to the local college and getting started.

Thats it so far. Any questions, let me know. Otherwise, I will update accordingly!

EBOOK, yes.

One other thing, the 4 nights were all questions along with what to expect, the decision tree, how to study, etc. No content was really taught. The syllabus gives you the plan and they wanted you to review the vids and book before, so they assumed you know the content and if you were lacking, they simply advised to read X amount of pages a day along with your q-bank tests and then review what you got right or wrong.

So, they wont teach you the content, its their in their book and their content videos but the live stuff is simply what I outlined above!

Thanks so much for these.. I have a few q's on my mind that were just answered by your posts. Btw, I plan to purchase it at the end of this month (hopefully) however I won't be able to do the live class, probably the "anywhere" is what I'm going for and it may be just as good. I didn't like the fact that they only provide E-Book for I am not a fan and too techie person. Where did you happen to buy the actual book? Was it the latest edition? I will definitely be needing one soon. I try searching online unfortunately got no luck finding one. Please let me know. Thank you!
