Licensing Question (Important)

  1. I was arrested on a misdemeanor charge almost 11 years ago, will this prevent me from getting my RN license? I am in the midst of completing my pre-requisites and I would hate to fill out my application to take the test (which won't be for another 3 years) and find out that I am not qualified because of a misdemeanor charge.

Who could I speak to, I live in the state of New York.

Your Board of Nursing might be able to help, although most are hesitant to give too much info as people tend to hold their feet to the fire. Anyway, it is a good place to start. If you don't get the answer you need from the first person you talk to, insist on talking to someone else or getting the name of someone else to contact. You can find your state board thru this website: www.ncsbn.org

Good luck. In Texas misdemeanors won't automatically exclude you from a license. The Board does look at the whole picture and sometimes places stipulations. It is an individual thing and hard to give a one-size-fits-all answer.

    Start here:

    www.op.nysed.gov

That is the website for the NYS Education Dept (yes, they licenses nurses and a bunch of other folks!). Find the Board of Nursing there and ask them!
