I passed the NCLEX 01/2014

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello, I passed the NCLEX and decided to write a post that may help others while studying. What I am about to say may or may not help you. As a background on myself, I had a 3.0 in nursing school and I am a self motivated planner. (Type A) If you aren't one to stick to a schedule you make yourself, a paid for program may be better.

First, I graduated 12/13/13. I received my ATT on 12/21/13 and scheduled it as soon as possible. My coworker and ironically preceptor for Capstone was working with me that day. She said to me to schedule it as soon as possible. I said "BUT I ONLY HAVE 2 WEEKS TO STUDY," like a toddler. She said to me, "You will never feel like you had enough study time. You will probably feel like you failed it when you passed it. You need to do it soon because you will remember more from school." Well I did what she said and I got my passing score today. I took it on 01/02/14 @ 1300 and got my early results at noon today 01/04/14.

I didn't have the cash to do a study program. My school provided us with a HESI review which was 3 days long. (Other schools do ATI, they sound similar.) It consisted of an instructor reading the book to us, so I only went 1 of the 3 days. During block 4, I also purchased the Davis Q&A for NCLEX 2010 and Kaplan NCLEX 2013-2014. Both were about $25 on Amazon.

For 2 weeks, I did practice questions from Davis, Kaplan Strategy, HESI and Saunders. I would do 70-100 on work days where I was able to have down time. I did about 300 questions on my days off work. On those days off, I would do about 100 questions, take a break, change books/ CDs, do another. Other days where I worked as a CNA on the floor, I didn't study. My scores were actually better the next day when I did that, so I took about 2 days off a week in those 2 weeks from studying. (Multiple days in a row= 68-72%, after a day off, 86%) I did 70 questions on New Year's Eve and nothing on New Year's Day except go hiking and paint my nails.

When I was getting a lot of questions wrong because I never heard of these things, I would stop and write, "I will pass NCLEX on Jan 2nd." until my hand hurt and went back to it. I read all the rationales because I learned a LOT from them. I spoke to friends (especially nurse friends) when I started to stress for support and kept chugging along. I told myself as I was going to sleep at night that I would pass the NCLEX on Jan 2nd. I asked people to pray for me. I did everything I could to keep sane.

You aren't going to know all the answers on the NCLEX. If the strategy wasn't really working for me on a particular question, I said "Well, what is going to kill them?" Obviously I can't guarantee that was the right answer, but I still passed that way. I also used my provided pad to write things like, "What is wrong with this?" or "What is correct?" "This is a (teaching/assessment/analysis) question." That helped me focus how to answer the question. I was a little paranoid about the privacy, so I made sure not to write real specifics about the question on the paper provided, just what it was really asking. In the end, I think I used a combination of HESI and Kaplan strategy based on the question.

All in all, please give yourself some grace when practicing, give yourself some credit, you passed nursing school and give yourself time to practice questions because I credit those books for helping me pass.

Go for walks, hike, clean, bake, paint, do whatever helps you work off the anxiety!

CONGRATS! So what is the best material to study?
I'd just study everything you have. I think they all blend together eventually. I didn't have any extra funds after paying for my license, nclex and tuition, so I used every book I owned already.

Just Bs, whether they were a 0.2 from an A or a C, only Bs.

I took my NCLEX today, Still don't know the results, but I got the good pop up and I only had 75 questions. I was a "B"- "B+" student. My last day of class was 12/21/13. As soon as I got all my info I signed up to take my NCLEX exam. The closest day happened to be in 6 days. I had been working in ATI for the past 18 months are required by our school and passed the ATI predictor with a 99% of passing NCLEX first go. I have been in Kaplan for about 6-7 weeks. I cant say their decision tree helped but I think the higher acuity of questions helped and some of their pointers. I worked in a Hurst review book, Saunders, and Hogans. I did 6-700 questions 6 days a week for the past month. I used every available source to help me pass. Let's just hope I did. I would guess 45% of my test consisted of SATA :( (I hate them), I had drag and drops, and priority. I didnt get one dosage calc question. Also for those of you who may not know this the test now consists on only generic named drugs. The used to have Brand and generic, so make sure to know both.

Needless to say I hope I passed, but when I left I about cried, but I did get the good pop up. so lets hope!!

Wow what a great story! And congratulations! I wish I had taken it immediately after Graduation but ended up waiting SEVEN months after due to different circumstances! So needless to say when the time finally came, I was extremely worried! Despite feeling totally worthless and incompetent after taking that exam, I learned that I passed!! What helped me was tutoring provided by my school called ATI, Davis review book, and definitely EXAM CRAM! Also listening to Lindsey Stirling violin all week and on the way to the test helped me get in a relaxed state of mind, lol! And lots of coffee :)

Hello all! I took my NCLEX PN yesterday 03/24/2014 and I can't sleep! I tried the Pearson Vue trick and I got the "good pop up" I sooo hope it works! I left the test site feeling terrible, I have all my family and friends convinced I failed. If this trick works it will be awesome!!! I will update when I know for sure.

Congrats..PVT still works. It did for I tested on 3/22..got the good pop up..confirmed with the quick results yesterday.

Hey I passed! My license number is online today! YAY!!

Wow I am so happy it has been a long day! I just heard about the pvt test after I took NCLEX. I was so sure I failed after I took it, I only had 85 questions and I really thought I failed. I came home and searched online to see what my state licensing website would look like if I failed and came across the pvt trick. I tried it and wasn't able to reregister. I still didn't believe it until I checked online for like the 48th time and my license number was there!! YAY!

Any recent passers

[email protected] is a SCAM!!! First of all as much as possible i don't want to put my name here because this is my first time that i will be posting or to put comments online. But i want people to know that this STUDY GUIDE IS A SCAM! I will be taking my nclex soon and because of increase anxiety i came across this website and despite that this website will make you say "is this really true?" i still went ahead and ask. Oct 9 2014 when i asked "pass nclex" on how to avail his/her study guide. She/he responded quickly on my email and said that his/her study guide can still be use till 2016 and i can pay through PAYPAL of $50. I told her/him (I'm sorry if i keep saying he/she because he/she never introduce herself/himself to me thats why i don't know what to call him/her so in our conversation i call her/him "HELLO") So anyhow..i was told that i could avail the study guide if first i will pay through paypal and so i did paid and got the study guide. Oct 11 when i got the study guide and started reading it, In the beginning she/he said i can ask anytime if i have question, upon reading his/her study guide i have found some discrepancy or wrong info for example page17 "Realize that meredine sulfate demerol should be AVOIDED due to potential toxicity" and i was skeptical because i know at least in the book that i am reading to prepare for nclex MOSBY ABC NCLEX page318 said that "Administer Meperidine Demerol to relieve pain, morphine sulfate should not be given because it causes more pain increases the spasm of the sphincter of oddi thereby aggravating the pain". I Immediately emailed her and corrected it and told her "Theres more in your study guide that is wrong. I can't believe i have to keep looking at books just to verify your study guide. Give me my money back i will not be using your study guide. You need to proof read your study guide before you sell them. Don't make us more confuse, we need to pass nclex and not proof read your study guide" and she responded saying i was wrong "No... you're wrong. Patients with pancreatitis "can" have morphine... but... they "can't" have demerol. They can't have demerol because "demerol" possess "toxic" metabolites. Please understand that you need to just study the guide and not try to make things complicated for yourself. Feel free to ask me any other questions.( I will be boarding a long flight in 3 minutes... so I will be available online on monday)" -that was the last time i heard from her. I emailed once again and told her "(you should not be avoiding my questions because when you said your study guide is trustable , i did not question you but when i saw some of the wrong info made me realized that i can't be looking at books to verify your stuff i don't have time anymore my nclex is in 2weeks. give me my money back, i will be posting our conversation in the internet once you ignore me)"

I emailed her/him "Hello, you said just email you whenever i have question but how come now that i have clarifications about your study guide suddenly i can't contact you. I paid $50 for your study guide expecting that it will help me pass my nclex and ease my anxiety, i took the risk despite that i don't even know your name. I trusted you but how come right now i can't contact you? pls give me my money back, i won't be doing this if i don't see any discrepancy on your study guide. You gave us your word that we will pass our nclex with just studying your study guide but how can i trust your information on your study guide if its not updated and you are giving wrong info that i have to keep going back to books just to clarify your study guide. I have no time anymore, my nclex is in 2 weeks and you gave me more stress. I will be posting our conversation to youtube and internet so that people will know that your STUDY GUIDE IS JUST A SCAM and you are just taking advantages of our weakness. So even if you don't give me my money back at least people will be aware. I sent my payment through Paypal and it has your name in there. Pls its not all about the money. It is all about trust. "

PLS BE AWARE! DO NOT TRUST THIS STUDY GUIDE. I GOT HER NAME WHEN I PAID THROUGH PAYPAL AND HER NAME IS YVENST SIMONIS. I DONT KNOW IF THAT PERSON IS HE/SHE I ASSUME THAT SHE IS A GIRL. THIS IS REALLY LESSON LEARNED, FOR FUTURE NCLEX TEST TAKERS PLS BE CAREFUL TO THIS WEBSITE THIS IS A SCAM. I PAID $50 AND I WONT BE DOING THIS IF THIS PERSON DIDNT IGNORED ME RIGHT AFTER SHE GOT MY PAYMENT"

How can I prepare for pn nclex I failed again did anyone study hurst review if so did it help I will give it a try for the first time

PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF $50 AND DON'T PURCHASE THIS STUDY GUIDE. It's just rationale from kaplan and saunders. You yourself can do so much better on this one. Instead spend it on kaplan / ncsbn qbank! Believe me!
