Graduated and SCARED To DEATH

Nursing Students NCLEX

I graduated from my LPN program in March, and just sent in my paperwork to take NCLEX-PN. Now, I am totally overwhelmed and literally scared to death.

One thing is that I think I have too many resources...two comprehensive review books,(Saunders and Mosby) took a review course, and signed for the learning extension course, because so many people spoke about it. Unfortunately, I really hate the learning extension program...I am not that comfortable with it, and I am not having the same positive experience with it that so many others speak of.

I can't really focus when I study, and know that I have to get it together in order to try and take the boards at the end of May, beginning of June the latest. Many people say that they are easy if you study really hard, but at the moment, my mind is so scattered that I actually cry in between studying.

I know that I am rambling, but does anyone have advice? Which review book or system of study was best for you readers?

Hi, pagandeva; I moved your post to a forum better suited for the help you need.

Sorry about that, and thanks!

it's been a loooong time since i took boards, but calm down.

being so upset while trying to study is counter productive.

everyone learns differently, and if the extension course is not working for you, don't do it. do what you feel the most comfortable with.

that is my little bit, but i am sure someone else will come along with some great help.

good luck!!!

Thank you for responding to me. Yes, I think I will leave the extension course alone. I have a relative who is also studying (doesn't live close to me), and she offered to pay me the same price I paid, and I think I'll let her 'have' it.

God, I have to calm down!!!

Good luck! Let us know how you do.

As a new grad and recently licensed LPN, I will say this: IN MY OPINION, you cannot really study for the NCLEX b/c you dont know what kind of questions the computer will bring to you and when you sit at the computer, IT DOES NOT tell you how many questions that you are going to get. HOWEVER, I would (A) Study my weak area(s) as often as possible w/o burning yourself out; if you are tired (eyes burning or butt hurting :lol2: , STOP!) only you know when you have had enough of studying a particular area (B) DO SIT AT THE COMPUTER FOR AT LEAST 85 ?'s EVERYTIME you study w/ the disk, no matter what study guide you choose to use. As you may well know, the min. ?'s you can get is 85 and the max is 205, so keep that in mind while you study. This is what I did and I passed w/85 ?'s the first time. I was just as stressed and looking for all advice from anyone willing to give it! © When answering ?s 1. READ THE QUESTION FIRST, 2. Look at the choices that you have, 3. GO BACK AND RE-READ THE QUESTION to be sure you understand what the computer is asking you, 4. Look at the choices AGAIN, 5., Once you have understood what the computer is asking you, think EITHER (A) Maslow's (look in one of your text books for the order of the needs), (B) ABC'S (airway, breathing, circulation), and © WHO WOULD YOU SEE FIRST! These are priority questions and you will need the above tools (A&B) to answer these type of questions. If you have more ?'s, please feel free to PM me if you wish:mad: .
