Failed NCLEX, AGAIN!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I failed my exam for the 5th tiime, and I graduated in 2006. I need to find the strength to go to a refresher course. I have my Sanders book and the kaplan book as I took the review way back in 2005. I don't know what to do next, I don't want to give up, but where do I start to re-start in reviewing again? i took the exam in March and failed after 153 questions.

I am open for all feedback!

Disappointed and unmotivated...

It pains me to type this- but if you failed the NCLEX for the 5th consecutive time despite taking a review course AND doing Saunders+Kaplan.. it means you dont really "GET" the concepts behind Nursing practice.. and it may be best to find your true career-calling...

Wow.Thanks.

Wow. Constructively, how about a tutor? Maybe a one on one who can better assess your strengths and weaknesses. Don't give up. Just because you have a hard time passing this test doesn't mean you wouldn't be a fantastic nurse. Book learning only goes so far. Some of our nurses who passed the nclex the first time can't nurse a tree stump. Find a mentor. You can do this. I worked with a woman who took boards 5 or 6 times before passing. Best, Deb

We have had some members that passed NCLEX with more than 5 attempts. Do not loose hope but maybe take a short break from studying and assess how you have been studying. I would suggest setting a plan of 2-4 hours a day of just studying and concentrate on practising questions and reading the rationale of the questions.Only read up on a subject if you are struggling to answer questions. Not sure how up to date your Saunder's book is but maybe look at a newer book or even browse your local book store and see what sort of NCLEX books appeal to you

hi jazzysmika,

I know a person here who failed NCLEX-RN for like 5 times too, but she never gave up and she passed. Failing NCLEX 5 times won't justify for you to change your career. Failing doesn' t mean you have to give up. Go and try again, and try what the others advised you to do , a one on one tutor. Pray, everything happens for a reason. Just stay away from negative people and negative comments. :) Godbless!

Don't give up. You have been out for awhile. No one asks you how many times you have taken the nclex when you go for an interview. All they want to know is if you have a license. don't let one bad apple out of this forum spoil the whole bunch. We are here to be supportive not pass and turn noses up in the air at others who are still trying. Remember, this could be any one of us in this position. Keep your eye on the prize Jazzysmika. Good luck to you and everyone who are still trying to pass the exam.

And lets face it, if we ran every time we failed, we would all be sitting in the house - and what good would that do? I have had many spectacular failures. And its true, nobody every asked how many times I took to pass the nclex pn or what ranking I graduated school at - just "show me your license." And its the same for the RN.

My dear,

Listen and take good advices from people in this forum and throw away every negative comment.

I have a friend who failed 9 times and passed on the 10th one. If you search through this forum you will read a lot of testimonies of those who failed more than 5times and never gave up until they pass.

I praised you for saying the truth bc not everyone will have the heart to say how many times they failed.

Falling 5 times will not make you change your career unless you wanted to.

Take a break for one or two weeks off from book, then read one of the latest review books, read it cover to cover, saunders is good [4th edition]. then register for a live content review in your area even if it takes you out of your city if possible for you.

Make sure you pray always if possible do your prayers with fasting if you are a christain.

Then start your next exam in a different way and see the handwork of God in your life.

You are never a failure until you give up. Nclex is not a true test of knowledge, i'm talking from experience.

Remember Jesus fell 3 times on His way to calvary and never gave up to carry our sins, sufferings and failures.

The Lord is your strenght, you can do it. Good luck in your next exam.

Continue to plug away, you will eventually pass. I agree, a one to one tutor just might do the trick.

One person posted on this site that they passed after their tenth attempt. Do not give up. If it takes you ten times, well, then it takes you ten times, but I think you will pass before then!

try EXCELL review..they helped me a lot. although they never mentioned it here..my aunt and some of her friends attended their review. and atleast that is a 10 day review. also when you study take a break every 2 hours. coz sfter 2 hours of studying..you'll be tired and the things that you're reading will be useless. do write a lot of stuffs..coz when you write you retain those things in ur mind. and read it out load (just like the baby in the commercial does, get it?)

and dont ever forget to pray!!(:
