Failed NCLEX 3x...Any advice?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello,

I am new here and in need of any words of encouragement and advice. I just found out I failed the NCLEX-RN for the 3rd time and I just don't know what to do anymore. I put a lot of time into studying as well as did A LOT of questions. I felt very confident going into the exam this time but now I just don't know where to start again. I tried Feuer before the second time and mainly used Kaplan strategy book and questions this time. I have worked so hard to get to this point but just can't seem to pass the test. I am so humiliated to return to work as a nurse tech when everyone was waiting for me to pass to start as an RN.

As far as study tips, does anyone have any successful ones to share? Any views on Suzanne's plan and NCSBN online review? Please help :o

Don't be embarrassed because you are not the first person to fail 3xs and I'm sure that you won't be the last one.

  • what happened to Feuer? I heard that was a really good program (in fact I am using them now)
  • what happened to Kaplan strategy? I am using that now, from advice from a girl I know that failed 3xs as well and passed on her 4th
  • what happened to doing a lot of questions? I am doing that too! all kaplan, and right now I am starting to do Feuer (I read the rationales over and over and over....)

During the first 2 times that you took the exam, they sent you a report by mail to see where you went wrong in the test. Did you review that? Did you work on the weak areas?

you are a smart person because you passed nursing school. But you have to find a way to study to retain the info you study.

I know one girl from my class who everyone agrees is an "airhead", and she just passed boards a couple of weeks ago.

where are you from?

PM me so I can give you the name of the guy who taught the "airhead"

I am actually going this saturday to see the teacher.

hang in there.

you know that now you have to find a way to study better.

Hay lets not give up!! I took nclex 3x and it appears to me that we went down the same road. I study saunders the frist time I took nclex, with near passing in all catagories. for the 2nd and 3rd time I study with Kaplan, and lets just say my results did not reflect what i know. At this point I needed an outlet (all nurses) so I listened to the forms advise and I am considering suanne plan. My advise to you is read the success stories on the forms and pray to god to give us the strengh for this journey to come. when I read the stories on the form it really gives me hope . My friend take some time off from studying and lets go back together and conquer nclex. I'm still waiting for my ATT, but when it comes I'll hit the books again (suanne plans). Just know you are not alone. when this is all over it would have been worth it. god bless you and Keep me posted. Chrisjoy

You've come too far to stop now. I know how you must be feeling, because I felt the same just one month ago. I am working on my third attempt on passing nclex. I signed up for ncsbn.ext and Hurst Review. I felt that I needed review on content because many of the questions I found did not apply to the strategies taught in Kaplan. I ran out of time, while trying to apply these strategies.

I'd suggest you clear your mind. Do get caught up in the fact that you haven't passed yet, the test itself is stressful! Try not to focus on the people on your job, because many of the experienced nurses ( 15 to 20 years) really don't understand the 'new' nclex test and if they had to take it again - probably wouldn't pass. Just think, if this test had to be taken every renewal, many nurses that are on the floor now would no longer be registered nurses, and they know it! Take a few weeks off, give yourself a break! Have some fun, then get back to studying! I did it and I feel much better now and I'm ready to get back to studying. Good Luck, You WILL pass your test!

You are not the only one. When I failed in july for first time. I was devasted. I could not hit back to books and study. I had a lot of negative feeling and felt like I was such a failure........After talking, listening and taking a break for a long time....I am ready to try one more time. We all feel that way. Take a break and start studyig when you are ready.

Good Luck

I just want to say that you are definitely not alone. I failed 3x's also. It has been so uplifting for me to know that I was not alone in this journey to get to the next level. I will be praying for you and everyone who is in the same situation. We too shall be overcomers. Because he has made us the head not the tail! He placed us above not beneath! We will get our inheritance! We will make it to our ultimate goal of becoming a "State Liscensed Registered Nurse".MAY GOD BLESS US ALL!

i would check the sticky at top of thread new revised first tip of suzanne's plan. i am using it i will be taking it a 3x in oct 19. keep your head and have faith , believe and you will succeed. we never know why god puts us in theses situations but, know he knows what should happen in our future that we will never know because we did everything would be easy. stay determined and god will follow thorough don't give up. just found i passed using her plan only that is all you need.

I too understand what you are going through having just failed for the 3rd time. I was so numb but I know God does not put more on you than you can bear. So I took some days off from studying and this is my week to start all over again. I was above passing on some areas and near in others. I did not have any below passing as I did with previous test. Keep praying and studying, giving up is not an option. I know its hard I have to tell myself to keep going everyday. I will keep you in prayer.

First I would like to say, don't give up!

I failed nclex for the first and only time in August and have just recently felt comfy enough to set a date to retest. I graduated with honors and still failed but I won't give up either. Try new things that work for you.

I have done the NCSBN site at learningext.com and I find that the questions are similar in difficulty as Nclex-rn. I am also doing Feuer which is great for content brush up. Just try to exhaust other options that fit you and your way of learning. You obviously had the tenacity to keep retesting so don't give up. All successful people fail at some time in their life!

I took NCLEX for the second time 1 week ago, and did not pass. I am looking for the spark to get me through...

I am going to try Suzanne's plan this time, as I used Kaplan (went to class and online) before...

Can someone tell me what Feuer is??? IS it a website? Book? Class?

Also, someone mentioned learning ext... I've heard it is a lot easier question wise than Kaplan, but can you tell me if the CONTENT is better. I really had a hard time with Kaplan's review book... especially the pharmacology section, and since that is the area both times that I was "below passing" on NCLEX, I am really looking for something that will help me content wise in this area.

THANKS,

LAH

WOW AIR HEAD? I Think thats so " not nice " to say about some one. what if some one called you air head or some other name.

"the stone that the builder rejected has become the chief corner stone"

I guess she showed you she was no airhead and passed her exam.

I just wanted to say that I too have just failed the NCLEX. I took it for a 2nd time Oct 23rd. I had done with Kaplan review course and another review course my school had offered. I feel like I am in the same boat as all of you. When I found out that I had failed, I was humiliated and felt like such a failure. So many people at work were "counting" on me to pass. Everyone said they were praying for me and knew that I would pass this time. When I went to the pearsonvue website and saw the word "fail," I honestly didnt know what to do. I felt like my world around me was caving in.

Now, I feel like God has done this for a reason. I am not sure of the reason, but I hope to find out someday. I feel like we can make it through this. I have talked with a lady at the Sylvan Learning Center, which I thought was typically a place children went for help, but its not. She said that many adults have trouble taking this test. I am meeting with her this week. She sounded very helpful! She said that she gets a lot of nurses who come through her doors, and its not the content we are lacking, its the ability to understand what the question is really asking us.

I was thinking of trying the Suzanne Plan. Has anyone else tried it? It seems like it would be very helpful. Any advice?

My friend did the NCSBN program and she passed her first time, so I was thinking of looking into that as well.

Also, I heard if you failed the NCLEX-RN three times that you have to go back to school, or take some class? Is this true and what kind of class?

Hang in there, and God Bless!
