does anyone do really well in school and have trouble with NCLEX?

Nursing Students NCLEX

hello. i have a random question that i have been thinking about... i know everyone is different but i was curious if:

a student does really well throughout nursing school... graduated with honors. and still has trouble with the NCLEX? (ie, failing)

i am the student and i don't want to be overconfident for a very hard and important test but i also don't want to FREAK OUT and stress my brains out when i might do okay. ahhhhh , this test is looming over me!! :bluecry1: i'm so happy to have graduated but i'm not 100% relieved yet!

any comments?

Depends what kind of questions you got on your exams in NS. Some schools apparently don't give NCLEX level questions which are application and analysis rather than recall or knowledge based.

My class got killer questions on our exams, however, those who survived and graduated did quite well on NCLEX, in fact, 100% passage.

Overall I think too much fear about the NCLEX is instilled in NS grads. Most of it coming from those that would profit from this anxiety such as Kaplan, ATI etc.

thank you for the awesome reply! i definitely agree... we had a lot of very tough questions on exams, especially last semester. they were definietly application and analysis questions... lab values and what you would do, priority questions, delegation, alternate format.... i surprisingly got a B+ in the class but some people dropped or failed. very very sad. our school does have a good pass rate for nclex though.

and YES there is sooo much fear instilled!!! i 100% recognize how important and challenging the test is but it shouldn't make us terrified!

I've read several posts here recently where people said they did well in school but can't seem to pass the NCLEX. They might be suffering from severe test anxiety or perhaps they weren't really as prepared as they should have been. I was given NLN pretests at the end of my nursing program and failed them miserably. When I took the NCLEX, I passed it. I guess it can be different for different people. You just have to keep preparing for it and take it as many times as necessary until it is passed.

I've been a RN for 1.5 years outside of US and I still failed.
