Do people really pass after 265 Questions-NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Ok. Now I'm really frustrated. I was sitting in that room for over 3 hours and watching the questions count all the way to 265. I was the last person to leave. I'm not feeling very confident. I know most of you said that it shut off after 75 questions or so, and you passed. I have only heard of a few people passing with 265 questions...anyone out there?

I studied and did lots of practice questions. The truth is, I don't test well - I usually "barely" pass everything related to these types of exams.

It will be a long weekend while awaiting the results. I already have a job lined up so I think I will be rather embarrassed if I have to tell them that I failed. Not only that, but I'm still burnt out with all of this studying stuff! Advice?

Thank you so much for that encouragement. my reviewer in kaplan told me that when you hit 265 questions, your last question matters..if it is above passing or below passing based on the bloom's taxonomy. Is a psych question, analysis?:roll

I've heard several people make similar comments after Kaplan courses, and of course the last question matters (they all matter), but again, the last question is not necessarily the determinant of the pass/fail result.

To pass the NCLEX, you simply have to be above the passing standard. If the computer cuts off before 265, it means that the computer was able to determine with 95% certainty that you were either above or below the passing standard.

So let's say you're going along and after 264 questions, the computer thinks you're above the passing standard, but it is not 95% sure of that. It will give you question 265 (simply because the test won't end early unless it's 95% sure). Even if you miss the last one, you could (and likely will) still end up above the passing standard.

That's why you can't say that the exam result is determined by the result of the last question.

OK- I was that person who took the WHOLE test and passed. The lady told me the computer shut down after 80 questions but was programmed for the whole test. Lucky me- and YOU.

Another myth. Sorry they fed you this erroneous information.

hahaha! oh okay..:nuke: they said the last question matters coz its a basis what level of bloom's taxonomy is the last question. for example, my question was psychia its about communication 'nurse to patient', they said (my friends) its an analysis coz you have to think what is the best reply to be given to the patient. oh my! i guess u know i'm in the middle of crisis..anxiety actually hehe

in the level of bloom's taxonomy, analysis and application both in the passing level in nclex-rn. i hope i make it!:crying2:

someone help pls!!!!!! I am having trouble with prioritization, on which patient to attend to first when coming on shift!!! I understand ABCs but when it comes to this one, I am confused. I know it sounds lame but please anyone help me understand alittle more. Or what book has patient to attend to first not what to do first!!!!!HELP HELP

what's the question? maybe i can help:smilecoffeecup:

I have been studying a lot and here are 4 rules I found for prioritization.

1. Acute beats Chronic (appendicitis beats copd or chf).

2. Fresh post op beats medical (acute or chronic) or other surgery

3. unstable beats stable

4. This is to be used as last resort-The more vital the organ the higher the priority. These organs are listed in order of how vital they are:Brain, lung, heart, liver, pancreas.

This is in a study guide I have from a class that a friend of mine took.

that's a good notes you got there..:specs: u know when u answer prioritization, it would depend on the situation, mostly u use ABC's. can u tell me what question ur confuse at? lets try to digest it.

265 is just the number of questions you got. It does not mean you passed or failed. Try to stay positive. Hang in there. Good luck tjosh.
