Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I bought the Kaplan Strategies book and purchased the Kaplan Qbank. I read the book, but I do not understand when I should apply what I learn in the book to the questions. In other words, the strategies teach how to break the questions down and answer the questions according to Maslow, Psychosocial, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Safety and Infection and so on, there are may strategies to use as you know, so how do you know which ones to use for any particular questions?

Example: How do I know if it is Health Promotion and Maintenance question to use the strategies they teach you to answer that type of question?

When I used Kaplan...I really didn't break questions down according to Health Promotion etc...I tried to use the nursing content that I had learned and just applied it to each questions. I found the Kaplan strategies didn't apply to every question. Sorry it didn't really answer your question. But that's how I approached each question.

Thanks for responding.....you answered my question....because I seem to apply the content as well and then I use some of the strategies..

No problem. I just found that the test taking strategies they showed us how to do didn't really apply to alot of questions. I guess as long as you know the rationale of each question, whether right or wrong, you should be fine. :)

Kaplan is great once you start doing the Q & A, you will start understanding t what the nclex is looking for, I just took the nclex on Mon (still waiting for results) but I have to say Kaplan really helped me. Do the Q bank and definetly do the review and write down the correct answers to the questions in a notebook and review that, every time you will do Qbank your knowledge will increase and you will understand how to answer the questions. I also did the Saunders but it was to easy for me and I found out that the way Kaplan asks you the same questions they really get you thinking.

Actually I thought the nclex was easier than the Kaplan, I loved the priority questions because Kaplan prepared me well for it. I answered 75 questions and the computer shut off. If you have any more questions about Kaplan you can pm me. Good luck.

I too, used Kaplan and Medspub when i took the nclex two weeks ago. The computer shut off at 79, and I passed. This was my 2nd take, I did Saunders during my 1st nclex exam and I failed at 85! You see, books which helped others may or may not help you. On my part, Kaplan and Medspub online helped me prepare for my 2nd nclex!

Kaplan and Saunders are 2 very good investment.

I think Kaplan helps but the decision tree works only with the harder, complex questions. The knowledge questions- it is a situation that you either know it or not and the decision tree does not help. I had to ask my Kaplan instructor about this. I was having the same problem. Hope this helps.

I used kaplan for my 1st NCLEX but I failed. The strategies did not help at all, during the lecture in kaplan package the instructor made it seems easy but it's not. The second time around I am using sauders but answering the questions in expected outcome and rationales. NCLEX expects you to know the outcome and rationales therefore it's very helpful, to start from now. However, kaplan helps with priority questions on the NCLEX. I am still studying so I wish you all the best studying:roll :)

It is hard to remember all the clues that Kaplan teaches. I try and look at every question and then restate it and tehn look at each option and think what they all represent...the outcome of each and that is how I have my correct answer.

You need to look at the sylabus......they suggest that you read the "coursebook" prior to class.
