NCLEX adoption for Canadian schools (Western Ontario '16)

Hello,

I was accepted into the university of western ontario's compressed nursing program.

According to the CNO (college of nurses of ontario), NCLEX will definitely be adopted by the time I write ('16).

Has anyone heard from their Canadian schools on their plan for moving to the NCLEX? I've emailed the academic advisors without response and there is no information on their nursing page.

Any info/discussion would be great! THANKS

It's not up to the schools. The licensing exam is controlled by the licensing body so go with your info from the CNO.

I go to Nipissing in the RPN to BScN and my teacher this semester did all of our tests in the NCLEX format. Didn't seem any different than previous courses in the past before the decision to move to NCLEX.

Its all about which one is the most correct intervention lol

I will be writing it 2016 as well. I'm in BC, I believe everyone will write it 2015 but according to my school there is still not much information- there is a previous form from a few months ago with a link to some information.

The NCLEX officially replaces the CRNE in January 2015 (Except in Quebec as it sounds like they are not adopting the NCLEX. Not 100% sure though). This link has a lot of great information about the NCLEX: NCLEX-RN Exam News - CNO

My nursing school seems quite disorganized in regards to prepping us for the conversion. I feel my class is at a slight disadvantage as we are the school's first class writing the NCLEX. In September we had to purchase "PrepU" that is essentially a bank full of NCLEX questions but without Canadian approval/content (Canadian nurses are currently reviewing all NCLEX questions and changing any terminology as necessary). So some of the questions use drugs and protocols that aren't relevant to Canada but it's a start!

To get extra practice I also signed up for an NCLEX question a day in which I am emailed a sample NCLEX question. I imagine by September there will be a lot more information for Nursing Schools to prep their students for the exam. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. My plan is to take a NCLEX prep course next spring as I write the exam in June 2015.
