Navy nurse corps for Foreign Grad Nurses

Published

Hello! Good day!

Im from the Philippines. 21 yo. I just graduated last May 2015 in University of Santo Tomas. I just passed my NCLEX last Nov 2016. Im planning to move to Nevada and work as a nurse this March 2017. But im also considering applying to the us navy as a nurse, too. In addition to that, I have second thoughts about my application in the Navy Nurse Corps. There are many questions that run thru my mind. Hope you can assist me with these:

1. Ive read that one of the requirements is that I should have graduated from a school accredited by CCNE or NLNC? As ive mentioned, I graduated from one of the universities here in the Philippines. Does it mean that Im not eligible to enter the navy nurse corps? Or are there any options? Or are there any universities here in the Philippines accredited by the two agencies?

2. I have a military id. I got this because my father is a retired us navy, deputy comptroller. Can I use this on my application or is this an edge for me in entering the navy?

3. For example I am able to enter the navy nurse corps, what does the training seem like? For example, handling of guns, swimming in deep sea waters (lol), and etc? Or is it medically-related only?

4. What if I apply online, pass all my documents, and they find out that im eligible to enter, what is the first step im tasked to do? Because Im still here in the philippines. Do I need to immediately go in the US?

Thanks for answering! More power!

Are you a US citizen? And yes, your degree will need to be accredited by a US agency. One possible option is to do an MSN product via an accredited US school.

Your family member ID card won't have much bearing on your application.

Good luck!

Hi. I'm an RN who got my BSN in the Philippines as well. Year 2013 when I moved to US and passed my NCLEX. My husband is a navy officer and I was enthusiastic to join the navy nurse corpse. However, if you got your BSN from the Philippines, the Navy won't accept it. They only accept the US Universities with CCNE or ACEN accredited. As of now, I don't think there are universities in the Philippines that are accredited by the 2 accrediting bodies that I mentioned. Also, your military ID has nothing to do with your application. They wont credit you for having one. You must also be a US citizen. There's no such thing as online application for a Navy Nurse Corps. You muct contact a recruiter and then that recruiter will forward your information to a medical recruiter if you are found to be eligible. One more thing, you have to have at least 6 months (if Im not mostaken) of experience practicing nursing in US. So, the best thing for you to do is to get your MSN to a CCNE accredited university. Have a US nursing experience and as soon as you got your degree, then contact a recruiter.

Thanks for the info guys. Perhaps I can work on my MSN while working at the same time.

Hi all,

I'm in the same boat. What did you guys end up doing? I'm a practicing RN, for 8 years, and just like you, a foreign graduate. Thinking of the Navy Nurse Corps.. but wouldn't be qualified..

Get an MSN online from a U.S. school.  Many nursing MSNs in nursing education or management are as quick as 32 credit hours (about 11 or 12 classes).  That's how most foreign grads do it.

I have another question for you. But it won't let me message you. Hope you can message me, if not, I understand. Thank you for your replies.
