Navy NCP Kit Submission

Just got word from my recruiter that my kit has gone up to NRC! :D Really excited about it, the process has been so long up to the point. Anyways, just wondering if any other NCP students could tell me how long it took you to hear back from the boards for acceptance after your kit was submitted. Thanks so much in advance!!

About 1.5 months. :)

I am in the process of hearing back from accelerated BSN programs in Northern & Southern California I applied to which start in Fall 2011 (I will know by the end of April 2011 where I get accepted). I want to apply to the NCP but do I need to wait until I have received an acceptance letter from a BSN school before I can apply? I wanted to apply to the NCP asap because I have little to no means of financing my nursing education and was hoping I could use NCP money to fund it. Thanks!

Yes, you must have an acceptance letter in hand. You can start now talking with your recruiter and getting your documents ready though.

Also, be wary of joining just for the funding. You will regret it in the future, make sure this is really what you want to do for the next 4-5 years of your life and more...

I just got my BSN acceptance letter this morning and was waiting on it so that i could apply for the Navy NCP. I called up the officer recruiter who deals with NCP and he told me that they have met their quote all the way through to the end of 2012. Something like 66 spots. He said he will find out in August if they are going to keep it at 66 or if a couple more spots will open. I will still be preparing a package in the event that more seat become available. I really want to be in the Nurse Cops. He did say that they take the strongest candidates (GPA, strong letters of recommendation, prior service, etc.), so hopefully that will benifit me. I have a 4.0GPA and have a little over 7 years experience in the Navy from my time served as a Corpsman. Hopefully something opens up, or the Navy sees a need for more general nurses.

Wow, they filled up fast...when I was finishing up my kit in December, my recruiter showed me that they only had 16 kits even in the works for 2012 for the 66 slots open, I wonder if they are scaling back or if they really filled that many that quickly. Something doesn't sound right...

66 slots is not that many, especially when you consider that they are taking applicants from all over the US, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

I guess it's not that many, but I am just surprised it went from only 16 kits in process, to being filled as the process takes so long. I was one of the 16 in process and only a few of them went to the most recent boards (End of Feb) per what my recruiter said. He showed me the goals and kits in process emails from "Big Navy" as he called it. I had an awesome recruiter that kept me informed the whole way. I guess if it's full I just need to be thankful that I have a spot.
