Navy Hospital Corpsman going into Nursing?

Published

Hey just wondering if there are any fellow HM's here going into Nursing school? If so how are you doing and where you from? I am done with my associates and just applying to PVAMU CON that's in Houston, tx. Wish you all the best of luck.

I was a Corpsman for over 7 years. Got out in Nov09, started school spring of 2010, and finishing my AA this semester (spring 2011). I've applied to a couple of nursing schools here in Florida. I actually just had an interview with one of them last Friday. It was pretty intense, the average GPA was 3.77 just to get an invite. Fortunately i have a 4.0GPA, but the interview was like 50% of the deciding factor. Guess i'll have to wait and see how i did when the letters get mailed out.

Good luck to you!

Nice to see another Vet tearing up the pre-reqs. Keep up the good work HM2 Doc.

Specializes in CNA.

We have a Navy Corpsman in our class. She is by leaps and bounds the most experienced and skilled caregiver among us.

Hey there wishing you best of luck. I don't think we get interviewed but I heard march 23rd is the day that acceptance letters get out. I'm so ready to get into nursing school :) I'm ready to get back into the medical environment. Any idea what area u want to work in?

Lol yes non stop but ready. Best of luck

Oops I didn't read the question right last night. I am not a HM

but I did work at a NH for a while, it's one of the things that drove me to the medical field. I also have a 4.0, although no AA (my cc requires a studio arts for an AA and the school I am applying to doesnt accept studio arts, so 60 credits). I am applying to schools in the DC/Baltimore area.

I just received my acceptance letter for UNF's BSN program. YES!! Start nursing school May 16th. To answer your question, after graduation i plan on going into the Navy Nurse Corps. Don't really get much say in where you get to work. It's pretty much wherever they want/need you the most.

Good luck with your school. Hope you get it.

I was at the former NH Charleston, but even when I was there it really was more of a giant clinic (no beds, no ER (once I got hurt on site and had to drive 30 minutes to the contracted ER...). I really liked the HM's and the Doc's/Nurses, even the MSC, but me and the Chiefs Mess didn't mesh well. And since then I have always had an issue with E-7 and above. The only Chiefs I have ever been able to stand were the ones in my field, all the others just rub me the wrong way.
