Navy Direct Accession FY18

Published

Just curious if anyone is going to boards for DA for the Navy FY18 with the new year right around the corner. I started my packet at the end of 2016 when I was still in my last block of nursing school and finally finished everything up over the summer. I was supposed to go to boards in August but there was only one job left for last fiscal year and a boat load of people going to the boards that go-around so we decided to pull my paperwork and wait. It's been a long year of hurry up and wait, paperwork and more paperwork.. But I'm prior service so this isn't really anything new to me.

I currently work as a critical care nurse in a stepdown ICU, though I'm not credentialed for critical care at this point in time. Hoping to have my CCRN by the time I actually swear in. With almost a year of experience at this point, solid letters of recommendation, good GPA, prior service, etc., I'm hoping that going in this early in the new FY will help my chances at grabbing an open billet.. Really hoping to have to some news by mid-November (my recruiters says the board will for sure meeting October?) and head to ODS in February.

For any current Nurse Corps Officers, a question - If you were prior service, did you get the E on your rank when you commissioned? How much time did you have prior service? My DD214 has 4 years 0 days.. My recruiter and others I've spoken to seem to think that, plus my time in IRR should qualify me for O1E, others say no, you have to have more than 4 years 1 day. There is a big difference in pay + BAH in total so it sure would be nice to get that E :)
