A year ago I graduated nursing school and took the nclex and failed. I used this website to get me through the nclex and I promised that when I passed I would share my story'in hopes I can help someone else in there journey to passing the NCLEX
When I came out of school I took the nclex in July. I thought to myself " if I passed nursing school I could pass the nclex, I don't need to study". I was wrong. I went into the test and came out knowing I did not pass. When I wen home and did the PVT it went right to the credit card page and that is when I felt my heart drop. For anyone who has ever failed the NCLEX knows exactly how that feels. My advice is take some time and go through the grieving process. When I failed I signed right back up for the nclex and never let myself heal from failing the first time. I too the nclex again in September and failed. I rushed to take it again in hopes I would pass but I was never over the fact o failed the first time. I then decided I needed to take more time and my advice for anyone in that situation is to allow yourself time to heal. A lot of people say if you fail and wait a long time to take it that you won't pass. I am proff a year later I passed. I believe it doesn't have to do with the amount of time you are out of school but your dedication to studying. I will let you know what I did differently and what helped me pass the nclex!
We all have busy lives and it's impossible to sit down everyday for 8 hours and study. We all have jobs, kids, and other life stressers. I gave myself a few months to grieve and then I bought Kaplan. Now I used Kaplan the first time around when I failed but I was lazy and never completed the program. This time I watched the content videos, took notes on the videos (never used the book), then I did all the question trainers and did the entire q bank once and the extra 4 tests they nicki ended. I did this for 3 months because I only was studying for 1-4 hours a day depending on the day. I never overstudied, I planned out exactly what I needed to do each day and stuck with it. I truly believe Kaplan helped me understand not only how to answer the questions but refreshed content for me. The nclex is not only knowing how to answer questions but you also need your basic content. I then bought the nclex kapplan strategies book to help with how to pick answers during the test. I completed that book within a week. I highly recommend it! It was extremely helpful with understanding how to answer any type of question the nclex throws at you.
Two days before the test I used a study guide I found off this website that was extremely helpful! I didn't do questions two days before the exam. I scheduled the exam at 2 pm so my body was calm and rested. I woke up, went to the gym, had a healthy breakfast, went over the study guide one more time and went to take the test. i went it, tried to stay calm, took my time and though every question out and now two days later I found out I passed :)
I'm sorry for such a long post. I just hope my story can help someone else who feels stuck. Even after a year and even if you failed once or twice or even eight times, YOU WILL BE A NURSE! It requires dedication each day. Don't go crazy studying but take you time time understanding basic content and understanding how to answer questions . I prayed a lot and i have major test anxiety so for anyone who has that as wel I found praying to really help. It is possible to pass the Nclex, don't ever give up!
Im sorry this post is so long but I just hope my story can help someone else along there journey to passing the nclex.
