My problem with my undergrad..Need Advice please

Published

I have a problem.

I posted on here many times. I have a Bachelors degree.

However, many of the BSN programs require almost the same pre reqs.

Well, I the only pre reqs I am lack are the science based ones ( Human A&P Microbio )

I took English and Mathematics during my undergrad

However, I made C's.

I am hearing that most of these schools accept students based on their grades. With C's in my past, do you think that these will hurt me?

Also here is something else I was thinking about

I was thiking of going back full time to just complete my pre reqs. (I was wondering if I should declare my major as Pre Nursing as opposed to Non Degree Seeking)

I am looking at Kennesaw b/c they admit students for all three terms. I also am thinking about clayton state and West GA

Can anyone offer me some advice on what to do and is my chances of getting into a program are high

I admit I made a couple of C's in my undergrad degree-I have a BS in Exercise Science and I got into nursing school! Going for my second Bachelors degree (BSN) this fall. I think the fact that I studied the human body for the entire undergrad process may have helped with my acceptance. I was worried about the C's as well.

I have a couple friends in the nursing program at KSU, they said the dept takes students according to GPA in the required prereqs, so aim for A's in the rest of the prereqs you need to take, but they were not in the accel. program....so it could be different?

Good luck!

Thank you for your post. Yeah I think I read on here that KSU soley admits on pre req GPAs which suck. I would pretty much have to take Eng and maybe 1 Math over

Do you like KSU's program?

I will attend Georgia Baptist's BSN program this fall, I didn't apply to KSU...but I heard good things about KSU's program. The girls in the KSU program say it's hard but they like it.

When did you apply and hear back from Georgia Baptist? Do you mind me prying and asking your credentials? I have applied within the last 2 weeks, so I am hoping to hear something soon. All the other programs I applied to had entrance exams, and since GB does not administer one, I am wondering what they lead towards. I hope I am making sense!

Congrats on your acceptance to GB!

Thanks a lot!! I applied to Georgia Baptist in March and got my acceptance letter the first week in May. I shadowed a nurse in 2005 on my own, GB & KSU came highly recommended from staff because students gain a lot of clinical experience in these programs. I don't think KSU has a NET exam either...

My background: I have a degree B.S. in Exercise Science and hold a couple of exercise certifications, CPR, etc. and work full time for a government agency that focuses on health/wellness and disease prevention. The degree I have is a lot of science, so I wonder if that, along with the field I work in, helped boost my chances of getting in the program.

best of luck!! Let us know if you get in!!

Hi! I was admitted to GBCN for Fall 2006. My grades were not stellar for my first undergraduate degree. However, I have made straight A's in my pre-req. science courses. GBCN is one of the few schools, other than Emory that looks at the nursing candidate as a whole. In my opinion the other school's are weeding out nursing school candidates by grades or scores on a pre-nursing entrance exam. Just because someone has great grades does not mean they will make a great nurse. If you can swing the tuition, highly recommend GBCN!!

Congrats on your acceptance to GBCN-mt33133!! See you in the fall!

If you get very high grades in your science pre-reqs, many schools are counting on those courses to be better predictors of how you'll do in their program. My undergrad grades weren't great either, but I did well in A&P, Micro, Chem, etc. which I took at GPC. KSU, I believe, is looking at the GPA of the nursing specific pre-reqs. Also consider Emory and Brenau. Schools with essays as part of their application are often looking at more than your GPA to consider whether you'll fit in well with their class. If you can demonstrate to them that you are a much different student now than you were back then, they may be willing to consider you more recent course work much more heavily than your past.

Best of luck,

Adonai
