Much demand for psych NP's around Atlanta?

U.S.A. Georgia

I am currently working as a med surg nurse in Arkansas and we will be moving to Atlanta in the next year. I am interested in getting an NP in Psych. I have started trying to look at programs around Atlanta and the only one I can find is as Georgia State and I'm wondering how good it is. I have sent an email and have not gotten a response and I'm wondering if they are going to continue with the program. I do have an option here to get the degree in Arkansas before I move.

I'm wondering though, since there aren't many programs around Atlanta, does this mean the job market for them is not good and they are not utilized or would it mean there would be many opportunities since there are not many graduates? I would appreciate any insight or information anyone has.

Thanks!!

Georgia State has a good rep for their nursing program...not sure when you emailed but a lot of the colleges are on/have been on Spring break...as far as NP...overall they are in need..one place you may want to consider looking for employment as a NP in Psych is the VA. There are 2 VA hospitals in GA - one in ATL & one in Augusta as well as several outpatient clinics. They needs all kinds of nurses.

Will you be practicing as a counselor that can write scripts? How are you going to utilize your NP? There is a very large recovery community in the Atlanta area with two prestigious institutions that are specifically for MD's, Nurses and other professionals. There is huge network of addictionologists that utilize FNP for med checks. Will you also be getting a LCSW? I saw a psych NP but it was in therapy. She didn't manage meds though...
