Hi, just wondering if anyone attends the Mt San Antonio nursing program. They're starting a weekend program this fall 06 and I'm thinking of transfering from Rio Hondo college. The hours will work better for me. I will be attending one day during the week for theory and every other weekend Sat+ Sun 12hr clinicals. Would appreaciate some info in regards to the teaching staff, hospitals they use for clinicals etc.
Thanx

MtSac nursing program is accredited. They go by your GPA and portfolio (basically, a review of coursework completed to date and test scores), then put accepted applicants on a list prioritized by date of application. I believe they still do the majority of clinicals with Citrus Valley Health Partners, which includes Queen of The Valley Hospital in West Covina, Intercommunity Hospital in Covina, and I think possibly San Gabriel Valley Hospice in West Covina as well as a couple of facilities in the Walnut/Chino area. All are great hospitals/facilities...in fact, I had my kids at Queen of the Valley and was assisted by a MtSac student during my oldest daughter's birth, she was very happy with the program. I don't know about the new weekend program, but it used to be very difficult to get into the traditional program. My sister-in-law is currently working on her prerequisites at MtSac and told me the waiting list for nursing is still about 2 years. However, it might be easier for you to transfer in if you are already in a program. Overall, MtSac has a decent reputation. It's great they are now offering a weekend program, wish they would've had that when I was living there.
Good Luck!
Thanx for the info, Yes the weekend program sounds good and it will work better for me because I have 3 little ones under the age of 4. ( I had all my kids at queen of the valley as well) =) childcare can get very expensive especially with one income. Well I have the whole summer to decide what I want to do but i'm leaning towards mount sac. Thanx again and goodluck.

Well, I went to Mt. SAC, but i didn't do the weekend program. I went back a couple of months ago to get a letter of rec and I was told by the secretary of the nursing program that they are doing a lottery to accept new students into the program since they have A LOT of students that apply. I suggest you call the nursing office and ask when they're having an information meeting.
Call 909.594.5611 ext 4750 for the technology and health division and ask to be transferred to the nursing program office.
As far as instructors go, once again, I don't know if they will have the same instructors for the weekend. Like anywhere, Mt. SAC has some great clinical instructors and some that are not so great. Those who have an ealry registration date get first pick on hospital/instructor.
Some of the hospitals I went to: Pomona Valley Hospital, Whittier Hospital, Las Encinas (pasadena for psych), Beverly Hospital (Montebello). Your experience in the hospital depends on several factors, hospital staff, instructor and facility.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Forgive me because I am new to all this and just starting but do you mean you do the nursing program on the weekends forgoings classes during the week? I am still doing my prerequisites so I cannot even apply yet anyway but this is what I would like too, providing this is what you mean.
Do any other CC's in the Mt Sac areas do this to or maybe will in the future?
Thanks in advance!
yes I will be attending my theory classes on Thursdays and clinicals are every other weekend both Sat & Sun 12 hr shifts. Not bad for working mothers =) I was just hoping someone would give me some info on the instructors there
