I am on the fence whether or not I apply to graduate school. I am hesitant because I started out in the OR right after graduating from RN with my ADN in 2008 and feel that my clinical skills aren't as sharp as those who are in med-surg or ICU or ER. I went back and got my BSN in 2012. Prior to being an RN, I was an LVN for 5 years.

I am interested in MSN with emphasis in Ambulatory Care or Nursing Leadership.

Any advice?

Thank you!

I went back for my MSN in education as a nurse who had only worked in the OR. Research different programs that appeal to you and see what the requirements are. I did have a practicum to complete, which I did at a local nursing school. I did not have any issues with clinical skills, although my clinical component didn't deal with assessing patients since it was all education focused.

Thank you for your response, Rose_Queen. At this point I am unsure which MSN program to get into....NP or Leadership/Management. I take it you are a nurse educator? Which MSN school did you attend? I am looking into on line programs.

Thank you!
