MSN not recognized for student nurse ANC Candidate stipend

I'm so very sorry to hear your news... that is a bummer. Hope you won't give up on getting a commission after your program completion. Yes, the Army does accept new BSN grads, as a 2Lt. If you also have your RN, at the MSN level, it would only make to much sense for the Army to accept you too, at that time. What's your plan B regarding finances till then?

Hello,

Thing is, upon graduation I will be a MSN/RN without a pre-qualifying bachellors and will be 41 years old.

I doubt they will accept me then either, even though some governmental agencies do accept MSN without pre-qualifying bachelors, the Army seemingly doesn't.

Plan B is to drop out and finish up my RN at a junior college as my finances will not cover my rent, food and so on unless I do otherwise.

I will have to wait and see. Lets hope but, I understand that it is a big institution and change takes time. It may be too soon for the Army to recognize MSN entry along with Diploma, ADN and BSN entry. I don't even know how long it took the Army to recognize ADN and BSN nurses and to recognize anything beyond the Diploma nurse?

If it doesn't work out, then I will move on.

Yeah, I really took it hard and posted my frustrations and worries all over this Military forum! Thank you for listening, I have "processed" it now.

Thing is, as much as I want to go if they "will" take me upon graduation that is too far of a stretch for me to hang out until.

As a student and (hopefully) new graduate come June, I will not be able to financially support myself from now until Dec '07 or Jan'08 when I actually would earn a salary from the Army.

Senior students have needs and I have them. Meanwhile, the hospitals local to me are recruiting my classmates and I as aggressively as they recruit all nurse candidate graduates.

So, regardless if the Army will take me upon graduation...I may have to pass them up on it due to new student graduate needs, (which they do not recognzie for any students other than BSN).

Just got the news: I am not in and will not be accepted into the ANCP.
Thing is, Congress will not recognize my MSN entry status and there is no law allowing an MSN entry student to receive Candidate status.
Laws will not change themselves and when they are petitioned to change by interested and devoted advocates, they do so slowly anyhow.
My final concern is that once I do graduate who is to say the Army will recognize my MSN/RN anyway as a new nurse graduate who has not worked as a nurse. Does they Army hire new nurse BSN graduates? There may be a conflict with them because even though a new nurse would be a 2LT, (which is naturally what I'd expect to be) MSNs are usually a higher rank YET, I do not have years experience.
There may be another loophole that they will not recognize me then either.

What are the entry requirements?

You must:

*be a U.S. citizen;

*be under 44 years of age (age may be offset by prior active-duty Uniformed Service time and/or civil service work experience in a Public Health Service agency at a PHS site at a level commensurate with the duties of a commissioned officer);

*have served less than 8 years of active duty if you are/were a member of another Uniformed Service (click here to access the Former/Current Uniformed Service members section);

*meet medical requirements; and

*pass an initial suitability investigation.

In addition, you must have earned a bachelor's degree or a master's degree (with no qualifying baccalaureate degree) from a nursing program accredited by the National League for nursing (NLN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time of graduation. A current, unrestricted, and valid nursing license from 1 of the 50 States, Washington D.C., the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam is also required. If you obtained your B.S. degree after December 1, 1988, your nursing license must be based on passing the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Exam (NCLEX).

How much will I earn?

Compensation varies depending on factors such as grade/rank, years of training and experience (T & E) in your profession, base pay entry date (BPED), geographic location of your duty station, and dependency status. The minimum starting pay grade/rank for a nurse in the PHS Commissioned Corps is O-2 (LTJG). You are given four years of T & E credit for the bachelor's degree or master's degree (with no qualifying bachelor's) in nursing. If you received your qualifying degree after July 28, 1995, this credit is retroactive from the first day of the first month after receipt of initial licensure. Additional T & E credit is earned for time spent after receipt of the qualifying degree in degree-related activities.

It is only not recognize for the "student nurse ANC Candidate stipend!" The Army DOES recognize MSN entry and they are encouraging us to apply.
