MSN/DNP in Iowa

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting in allnurses, but I thank all of you for the great posts that I've already read throughout my career as a nurse! So I am 25 and I've been a nurse for 6 years (1 LPN/ 5 RN), obtained my BSN a few years back and my nursing experience includes 3 med/surg and SCU and 3 in the OR working general surgery and robotics. I have decided I want to go back to school for nurse practitioner and I am frankly a bit overwhelmed with the information that is out there. My end goal would be to work for a surgeon and assist in surgery and work in the office, I think my OR experience would be a great asset to someone. From the research that I've done AG-ACNP may be more valued with the goal that I have, but it would limit me to only working with adults and I'm not sure how many surgeons only work with adults, which leads me to think that FNP would be the better route. Is there anyone from Iowa out there that can give me some insight to the educational route that they took and what kind of jobs they've worked. I am also worried that working in the OR may not translate well back to patient assessment and diagnosis, any thoughts? I am also trying to decide if an online program would give me all the tools I need to succeed as a practitioner. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you for everyones time in advanced!!

Vanderbilt has aprn tracks that you can add RNFA to so you could assist in surgery and see patients outside of the or.

Thanks for your comment! I am thinking about applying to Creightons DNP program with FNP as my specialty. I would like to get my RNFA down the road too!
