Hey everyone, I graduate with my BSN in December '14 good Lord willing! I am almost there!! I am in need of opinions/thoughts/facts about MSHA vs Wellmont. I am closer to holston valley medical center, but if Johnson city medical center is better I would seriously consider going there. Nurse internships/externships are about to open up soon for both Wellmont and MSHA but I don't know which would be better to learn at/work at eventually. I have also heard that sign on bonuses for new grads are completely gone and you better not expect to make to much because starting pay and seasoned pay is awful as well. I was told 14.50/hour new grad BSN, and seasoned RN $18/hr any truth to this anyone? I am almost positive someone here has worked at MSHA or Wellmont or have worked at both or knows someone to give me an honest opinion. ( Or I hope so anyways!) I want to work in ICU I believe, I can't stand med surg, or anything like that, I like the critical cases and fast paced environment. I have also looked into flight nursing eventually (of course when I have my feet under me good and well!) In about 2 years I plan on going into the travel nursing for the fact to make some extra money to pay off some loans. I just want to know what you all recommend Wellmont or MSHA? Pay differences as an RN? Best place to learn for internship? Opinions/thoughts/facts anyone?
Thanks so much everyone!!
Anyone have any opinion or thoughts on this?

Both systems have their pros and cons, my husband works for Welmont (non clinical) and I work at MSHA. Pay for new grads (I think) once you pass your NCLEX is $17.55 for Wellmont and $18 for MSHA - or somewhere around there, so not much different. MSHA has stripped as many benefits away from their employees as they can, they stopped their Baylor program for those that worked weekends, they stopped their benefit waive program (20% more pay for not taking benefits), they took away "hours for accrual" where if you were sent home on low census you could accrue the PTO that you were entitled to...basically anything they could strip away they could. Wellmont hasn't taken away all of their benefits, but that doesn't mean that they won't since MSHA is getting away with it. I am not sure as patient care, and I am sure it matters what unit you work on, but there are complaints about both. I have just applied with Wellmont to see what they can offer for pay for my position. I know several years ago the "nurse intern" pay at MSHA was $13.50 for a new grad before they passed their NCLEX. I would interview with both systems, get a good feel and go with what you think is best.

As a new grad BSN at wellmont my starting pay was 18.75 hr in Jan of 2013. Night Diff was 3.45 hr and weekends was 1 hr. They have an option where you can decline bennefits if you have other health insurance and this adds 20% to your base pay. Also I worked ICU and they offer a 7% critical care pay.
So for nights I made 18.75 + 20%=22.50 +(CC Bonus 18.75*7%) 1.31=23.81 + nights(3.45)= 27.26.
So for nights in the ICU i made 27.26 during the week and 28.26 on weekends.
Hope this helps
thank you so much everyone for the input !! All my paperwork did not come together for MSHA so that didn't work out, but my Wellmont one did and I had the interview today so fingers crossed I get it as it seems right now from what I am hearing Wellmont is the place to be instead of MSHA if you are staying in the area. We shall see!!

I like Wellmont best, but they are taking away their 20% for skipping benefits this year as well, I was told that it's a requirement of Obamacare, can't offer incentives for skipping health care coverage.
Good luck
