Moving from wales to AZ

Banner Health has hospitals in various areas, which one will you be at?

In the US, public school usually begins at 5 years of age with kindergarden, age 6 is first grade and so on.................middle school usually begins at 12 years with 7th grade but can vary with school district. Secondary school normally begins with 10th grade and 15 years of age. Summer vacation usually starts about mid-June and they return to school the end of August.

If you tell me what area of town you will be in I can offer more help. I lived in Arizona for about 14 years.

Many places also have a Pre-Kindegarten that starts around age 4-5. If you find a good day-care, they start education activities with children pretty young.

Holidays also include: Spring Break - usually a week off in March-April; Thanksgiving - usually that Thurs & Fri; Christmas Break - eve until usually Jan 2 or 3 depending on how the days fall; and Summer Break - as mentioned above.

Thankyou for the information so far. Unsure which hospital at present but we intend to live on out skirts of Phoenix, scottsdale, chardler or gilbert. The relocaion procedure is very long but we hope to under take the neclex late summer.( We hope to pass we have got 39 yrs experience as RN between us but we are taking no chances and are studing hard)I hope to work part time, in wales I am a midwife but I unerstand that in the us the midwife role is different but I do not mind where I work as long as a can rent a nice house with a pool and go skiing in the winter months at the weekend. :lol2: Thank you from wet and cold wales.

Having lived on 'both sides', I wish you luck!! And good luck with your studying - drug names and some language differences may cause difficulty, so just look carefully. I am sure that you will do well, and enjoy your move. My kids have settled in fine at school (they were 4 and 10 when we moved). The 4-year old started off in kindergarten, the 10 year old is a year ahead of his counterparts because Britain does start a year earlier.

I have just sat the NCLEX and passed so all the best, it is hard and covers alot of stuff and I found Kaplan and Saunders good books I also did a study on http://www.learningtext.com which explained alot of stuff on how the health system works in the US. We are hoping to relocate and I have been offered a job at Phoenix Baptist. We are just waiting for the immigration process and have started the screening process at cgfns and have been told it could take 6-8 months.

To all of you that are considering going to work in the US, get the Visa Screen process started as soon as possible..........................Belinda, Have you and your husband applied to take the CGFNS exam yet? What type of visa are you planning on going on since you stated that you would be going for just two years..............If it is an H1-B, they are full for this year and probably will not open next year for nurses, so please follow up on this so that you get everything done properly.

Thanks for your concern our relocation is being handled by a firm called inter staff they seem very sure that when the time comes we will get a visa I am unsure of the code they have just called it the green card. We have also been told thet we are not required to do the CGFNs that the enclxe is all that we require...........

Good, a green card is what you want.................but I would take a look at Arizona's website for their BON when you get a chance. Unless they changed their laws quite recently you are required to have CGFNS exam for them as a foreign grad. There are only 5 states in the US that do not require it, and they aren't one of the five.

I just checked the Arizona statutes, for my interest as well, unless you have a Canadian nursing license, you will be required to complete the CGFNS exam. You may want to check closer into this for yourself because the next exam time that you will be able to sit for will be November, 2004. Please always verify these things yourself also, do not leave everything up to the recruiter. You can save yourself a number of months that way.

Thank you suzanne for your information I have been on to the recruitment agency and I am waiting for a reply other sources inform me that as I am trained in an English spakiing country we may not have to do cfgns exams but in order to sit the NCLEX we need clearence from the cgfns they will check all of our training docs etc........It is complexed. Are there any midwives in AZ and what is a lay midwife.
