Moving to Tampa - Any recommendations?

Published

Hi! I'm moving to Tampa Bay area next year and I wanted to ask for your advice. What nursing agency can you recommend? I want to work per diem shifts at the same time work as staff in a hospital. What hospital in the area has the best working environment? My specialty is cardiac nursing. Your input will be a very great help.

I always recommend to new nurses coming to Florida that they investigate hospital contracts. Remember that Tampa and many other places on the West Coast are very seasonal. Right now, Florida is beginning its tourist season. Volume in these hospitals tend to double and triple, leaving the hospitals scrambling for nurses. Most hospitals are willing to negotiate a really nice seasonal contract. Generally 16-18 weeks in length with nice completion bonuses as well as great hourly rates. Some even offer nice housing allowances.

For new nurses to Florida, this is a great way to start and without to heavy of a job commitment. Most nurses can suffer through 16-18 weeks without difficulty. I know there are several hospitals right now offering days and nights ($34 & $37.00 per hour rates) with a $5,000 completion bonus. All you have to do is call the hospital's HR department and tell them you are interested in a seasonal contract.

Good luck!
