I'm moving from Huntington Beach to San Antonio in April and am looking for input on where to live. I'm looking for a rental house with a yard (I have two beagles) in the range of $800 - $1100 a month. I'm single and my daughter is grown up so I'm not worried about schools. The areas around 78244 and 78250 look good but I can't be sure. I'm flying in a few weeks to look at places and I'm going to have to make a fast decision. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you're interested in the West side of town (78250)- you should definitely apply at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Westover Hills. It's a new facility and part of the Santa Rosa system. It's also pretty close to the Medical Center, which is in the NW.
You should not have any difficulty finding a house to meet your specifications. Be sure to take a look at the crime statistics before you make a decision on where you want to live. I grew up in SA - there are definitely some sketchy areas you may want to avoid. On the plus side, traffic is relatively light except in the downtown & Medical Center areas.
Will you be in SA in time to enjoy Fiesta? http://www.fiesta-sa.org/ That is SA's own unique celebration - originally in honor of Texas Independence. Lots of parades & fun.
Best of luck to you! Let us know how things work out.

My Mom's a doctors assistant - informed me about your question. 78244 would not help you very much, unless you know for sure you'll be working at Brooke's Army Medical Center (BAMC). 78250 is great fro both the Christus Hospital on 151 and the med center also. You might check out 78254, 78253, 78240. These areas would be convenient to a dozen different medical employers. Shoot me a PM for more detailed info... Hope you enjoy SA as much as we do. Moved here from San Diego in '06 and love it:)

I am renting a house in medical center area, zip78240, 3bed, 2.5bath, $1100/month.
I would recommend to contact a local realtor finding a rental property.
You shouldn't have any problem finding a rental home with your budget.
I'm also recently relocated to SA because of nursing job.
Welcome to SA!

I have lived in SA my whole life. Just realize, it is a big city with bad areas. They are not confined to certain areas unfortunately. The north side has bad areas, southside has bad areas, east and west side too..... It is a great city to live in with plenty to do. In general, if you stay north of downtown, east of I-10 and west of I35 you are doing pretty good. Medical center is west of I-10 and is an exception to the rule. The worst traffic around is in the stone oak area and on 281 N and S from downtown to the stone oak area.... stone oak area is at the NW corner of the 1604 and 281 intersection on the far north side of town. Nice area to live in but the traffic blows..... There are a couple of really nice hospitals up there though, methodist stone oak and north central baptist.....
The best advice is to get a realtor and let them know your needs. You can rent all sorts of places on your budget. This is a very inexpensive city to live in.
78250 is a very new area with christus westover hills being out there. I dont know that area too well. stay away from the 78244 area, numbers very bad neighborhoods around there.....
Thanks to every one for the advice! I'm going to miss the ocean but I'm really looking forward to seeing what life's like in San Antonio. Thanks again!
