I am a nurse who works for UPMC in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania at the present time. I have almost 3 years of experience at the bedside as an RN in a thoracic ICU and PACU. I am 24 years old and am moving down to Orlando and am having a difficult time finding jobs. I have two masters degrees (MSN-administration, and a MBA) at the present time. I have also teaching experience at a community college and also at the University level. I have no management experience, but am basically looking for a job that would compensate me for the time and money I have spent on my education, and by educating others. Would agency nursing be a good choice for now? Are there other options throughout the city or places that may give me an assistant UD/Charge position? I am discouraged because I have spent 5 years so far working my way up within my organization, and would rather not start the whole way back at the bottom of the ladder. I do not at ALL want to jump right to the top, but at least a few rungs up from the bottom would be optimal. I also would not mind working and teaching at a school of nursing in the Orlando area as adjunct faculty if a position comes up. I am not moving to florida to "travel", but as an actual life move. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Why are you having problems finding work? Have you made person-to-person inquiries in hospitals in Orlando or has everything been done at a distance? That could be the problem.

Hi. Good luck you search. Those jobs are out there and you won't have to start back out at the bottom if you don't want to. They are just fewer than bedside nursing jobs and you have to be persistent.
Do not expect the money you were making in Pittsburg. Orlando is a low paying area compared to the North East Atlantic region.
I'll move your post to the Florida Forum where hopefully you can hone in on some locals to help give advice on where to apply. I know Florida Hospital is a large teaching hospital (I got my RN to BSN degree from them) and might be worth looking into.

FL hospital and ORMC have tons of positions posted on their websites; are you trying to find an asst nurse manager position? There are also hospitals outside of Orlando with positions (Leesburg, Health Central, South Lake). Maybe you should consider a travel position to take a look at the facilities before you make a move on your own. FL hospital uses travelers. Good luck on your search!

I was almost hired by a community college until salary came up..........WAY low (37K). You might get more because of your experience, but even phd nurse educators only start in the low 60's down here. A hospital would get you a better salary................too bad, with your education to be a staff nurse..........

As the other poster said, contact Florida Hosptial Orlando, they have their own school as well up there, I work for FL hosp in south west FL and have heard excellent things about their Orlando facilities and school. They LOVE nurses with master's degrees, you should have no problem securing a job with them, Good luck!

good afternoon, the ones to join in orange county, orlando is florida hospital group. they have a wonderful website with lots of information and easy to navigate. they will help you with relocating expenses. they have internships and are open to training nurses. they are all over orlando and surrounding areas. they have every major specialty available for interships and training. they will help you find a place to live. they have a competitive pay scale and have a program to help with your continuing education. if i were moving there, i would want to work for them. my brother lives in orlando and i have looked into living and working there. that is why i know what i am talking about. you can communicate with them via email and they will mail , snail mail, you out your application for employment, internships or whatever. of course, there are a number of smaller community hospitals but i would look to fhg first. i hope i gave you a place to start.
