Hi there,
As the title states my husband and I are planning a move to the Fraser Valley in BC (where I am originally from) in July 2018, I know this is quite a while away but I'm trying to get some advice beforehand and start applying early so I can start working right away when we arrive.
I currently work in Edmonton, AB in a Pediatric CVICU. I've only been there for a few months now, and prior to that I worked Adult Cardiology Floors as well as Adult Cardiac Surgery Floors in the Edmonton Heart Institute.
I'm curious how the job market is for RN's right now in the lower mainland, and if it is tough to get in as an external applicant. I know BC Children's is typically hiring, especially with the new building opening, but unfortunately this likely won't be a practical commute for me as were going to be living in the Maple Ridge area at least initially.
I'm not against moving to areas outside of Pediatrics. Would be willing to try ER, OR, any type of adult ICU/Step-down. I just don't really want to go back to working on adult floors, although I will if it's all I'm able to get.
Thanks in advance for your responses, I appreciate it!

Hi,
I am a student in a BSN program and I can only tell you what I've heard from nurses on the floor. If you are looking for any RN job, it shouldn't be difficult. There seems to be a general shortage in many areas - especially in the OR. With your job experience - I am sure you will find a job.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the job situation in pediatrics.
Congrats on deciding to move back. It's really a great area to live in.
Thanks for your response and help! I'm very excited to be moving back.
Good luck with the rest of your program!

If you are willing to commute.. Surrey, Abbotsford, Chilliwack are always looking for ER or critical care nurses. In most cases unless you look at Children's, there are not that many pediatric units (they are mostly like a monitoring short stay unit) so jobs will be limited.
