I have decided not to go in the R.N. program. My friends think I have gone nuts, but I have always loved dogs and wanted a boarding care kennels. So, I'm going after my dream, being an RN I think I would make more money from the start, but one must love what they do. I wasted so much time in taking Chem, Micro, all the stuff, to get into the RN program..Anyone want to change my mind? BE HAPPY!!!!! Nova

Why should we change your mind? You are doing what you want to do.
I love my kennel people. My dog loves going to her "holiday home". You'll still be making a big difference in peoples and their companions lives.
I know that I trust my dog's health to her kennel people.
Be great at what you do!! Woof!!

Go for your dream! There's no sense in forcing something that doesn't feel right. I used to work with dogs & cats, left and pursued nursing, and now I'm 3 months into my career thinking I made a huge mistake! Better to be clear with yourself from the beginning and follow your heart. And you don't have to think of the sciences as a mistake-it's valuable information that you will find yourself using in all areas of your life! Plus, if you decide in 3 years that you want to get your RN, you'll have the credits and an open future.
Good luck to you!

NovaRN2B,
Are you in Northern VA? If so, I may have 2 furry customers for you :) And I don't think it's a mistake to change your mind. You had to try it to find out, right? Otherwise you may be left wondering about it for the rest of your life.
Best wishes on your new adventure,
Heather

To this day I regret not going to Vet school when I had the chance (straight out of HS). Follow your heart and go for your dream!

Don't rule out vet school. It is better to be happy with what you are doing, than to continue doing something that you know won't make you happy. You will be better able to make a positive difference in this life. Don't forget about us. Come back and let us know how things are going with you.

Good luck. I think it's great you decided to go for your dream. And you may want to pursue studies as a vet tech one day to assure your clients that you have educational background to at least recognize emergencies so some of those classes won't go to waste.
Best wishes.

My advice is ALWAYS do what you feel in your heart and you can't go wrong. Nursing/nursing school is too hard unless you want it something bad! Good luck to you.

I'm so jealous! My pet sitter does really well; she left the medical field to pursue her dreams of working with animals and helping people (we can call her any time we have to work overtime or have an emergency and the "kids" are taken care of!). She does doggy massage and reads to them....they are so happy and relaxed when we come back..which means I can actually have a relaxing vacation!
So, moral of the story, don't minimize what you are trying to accomplish and know that its very important! Good luck!

You will find that microbiology, pathology, chemistry are all needed to run a healthy kennel for dogs. I actually used my knowlege of kennel care and health to pass my exam in microbiology. Never thought about the two intermingling. Studied to be a vet tech before nursing. I love dogs, too, but my husbands job kept us moving so often, that a kennel was limited to my show dogs.

If you just don't have it in you I don't think there is anything we can say. I just think that it would be a good thing to fall back on. It wouldn't be a waste of your time to go ahead and complete the RN program, even if ultimately you choose to be in the kennel business. That kind of business may take awhile to set up and get going and profitable, you could use your day job (as an RN) to support your side job (kennel owner) until you could turn your side job into a full-time business.
I mean, you did have a reason for starting the RN program in the first place, didn't you? It would stink to have to go back 10+ yrs. later and have to take the same pre-requisites because you decided you should have finished back then.
