Move to Montana?

Published

Hi! We are considering moving to Montana from Missouri. I hope to start nursing school next fall. My husband is a brick/stone mason. Was wondering what the job market is like for nurses in Billings? And we were debating whether I should start and finish school here in Missouri or move and start school out there? I can get an Associate Degree here and become an RN in two years or LPN in one year. All I can find on the internet for out there is two year LPN programs and 4 year RN. We have two children and also two horses so we'll need to find some acreage in order to keep them. It is a big step for us and any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know about the schools here, but, my advice to you is pretty simple. Stay where you are, finish school and then move to Montana. Most of the time you may be the sole bread winner in the family. So, if I were you, and really wanted to move to MT, come prepared with your ADN. That way you know you can get work.

I am not sure how the employment picture is in the flatlands, but here in western montana, anything outdoors is very seasonal (spring-fall).

I agree. That would probably work out best for us. My husband also does tile work so hopefully he can fall back on that in the winter. But I would rather be prepared than not. Thanks for the advice!!!

Oh by the way, thanks for the prevailing wage link, that was really interesting. I've been looking for any kind of information like that. Thanks!:)
