This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls )
Good luck to all you!!

Yep, I'm trying to decide the same thing. Can any current students tell us about the MSMC bioethics class too? As in how much reading, how long are the papers, how it fits in with all the other work etc., etc. Thanks! Can't give you any help there, as my cohort won't be starting the bioethics class until August when you guys start! All I can say is that the price difference is HUGE and that if you're not taking bioethics during the 2nd semester, then you have more free time during the week to study for other classes. Everyone who I talked to before I started the program said to take the Taylor course if I could, because it would be worth it. No one in the program recommended or encouraged me (or anyone else as far as I know) to take the bioethics class at mount saint mary's during the 2nd semester.
Based off of my experiences so far, I completely understand why everyone says to take that class ahead of time. Your free time in the program will be next to nothing. Only reason why I've been posting every so often is because I've been taking a study break at that time. When you're not in class or clinicals, you're driving to/from these places or studying for something. In 6 weeks we've had 5 (?) tests already (I think.... I stopped counting) and 2 finals next week. Plus competency exams. There is always something to be studying, care plans that have to be written, etc.
Speaking of which, I have a care plan to get back to so that I can hopefully get more than 5 hours of sleep tonight!
Hi Friends,
I'm having a tough time here and need some advice. Due to some personal situations that came up, it might be impossible for me to start classes this Fall. Do you think if I deny my acceptance this term, I will still have a chance for next term? Time's ticking... I'm freaking out.
Hi Tinybiz,
My suggestion would be to call the admissions office and explain the situation (if your comfortable sharing it with them) and ask them if you can defer your acceptance until next term.
If they don't allow you to defer and tell you that you have to apply again then I would make sure that you include an explanation in your future application about why you could not accept this time.
I hope that everything works out for the best for you.
Tinybiz,
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm on the waitlist. So your situation obviously helps me. But please know I'm still being objective here.
I personally don't think you should base your decision to accept the offer on whether or not you'll get re-offered for the next term. I obviously don't know your personal situation that came up, but if you think it's going to interfere with your studies, you should deny the offer.
$60,000 amortized over 12 months is still a lot of money. If you accept and drop out after 1 or 2 months, that's what? $5-10k down the drain.
Just my . In either case, I hope whatever came up will work out in the end for you.
