This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls )
Good luck to all you!!
Betsy
Thanks, jie. See you this fall or online.
If anyone needs to get certified or recertified for BLS CPR, there is one on July 27 in Santa Monica I'm attending. It is $60 including book, CD and AHA card. Classtime is 5:30pm - 9:30pm. Just one more thing off my checklist to get done. Actually mine expires in October, but didn't think I'd have time to get it done once the semester begins.
Also- CPR certification is offered on July 14 from 6-10 at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Cheaper than Santa Monica's ($50) Includes: AHA card, book, CD + AED cert. comes with it. I took the class before for my CNA and the instructor is REALLY cool. Everybody passes-guaranteed! The # to register is 310.517.4701 I will be there! Hope to meet some of you there, too. Also, say "hi" to your new cohort of Facebook--- "Mount St. Mary's Fall '10 cohort." I've already met a few of our new peeps there and they are super sweet!
Make sure your BLS CPR class is through the American Heart Association (AHA) or else it won't count! All of this kind of info is in the packet that you'll receive after you submit your deposit, so you'll get it soon. you'll have enough time between now and the end of august to get all your ducks in a row, so don't worry
jie123, thank you for the information about the Bioethics class.
sugarlips, thank you for the heads up about the BLS CPR certification on July 27th. I need to sign up for that too. I may try to find one in the valley, but maybe I'll just go to Santa Monica so I can meet some of my classmates.
Hello Trogina, for the Taylor class there are four books to read and 5 papers to write.
Topic 1, a 6 to 8 page paper presenting a Christian worldview prespective. Topic 2, a 6 to 8 page paper regarding one of the technologies or trends that bioethics is currently dealing with or facing. Topic 3, a 6-8 page paper based on research from 3 major secular news-magazines regarding articles on genetic resarch and cloning for the past 6 years. Topic 4, a 6-8 page paper on why stems cells are important and why stem cell research is important. Topic 5, 25 to 30 page paper on the issue of Physician Assisted-Suicide and Euthanasia.
The various books they ask us to read are suppose to correlate with these issues. I can't comment on that because I haven't received my books yet. In addition to reading the books, we need to incorporate our own research about these issues into the papers.
It seems pretty intense, but hopefully we'll get through it. I don't know anything about the MSMC class.

Thanks for the info on this class. July 14 is the day before I leave for my JDRF Bike Ride in Vermont, so not sure if I can do it. But would love to save the $10 at this point. We may just have to schedule a meet and greet in the coming months! See you on FB for sure.
(Still looking for a roommate - )
What is the topic for the Taylor U Bio-ethics course? I'm trying to decide if I should take it with Taylor or do it at MSMC... any "detailed" info about Taylor would be appreciated!!!Does anyone know if that class is offered at MSMC over the summer?
Yep, I'm trying to decide the same thing. Can any current students tell us about the MSMC bioethics class too? As in how much reading, how long are the papers, how it fits in with all the other work etc., etc. Thanks!

For the Taylor class, regarding how to submit work, this is what the prof emailed me back:
"All of the information should be on Blackboard under the class number PHL 410 Bioethics. But, regarding how one submits work; E-mail your papers to this e-mail address. I will grade them and tell you your grade. The only external link is to the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity. This group has a lot of material that can assist you in researching your assignments. I hope that this helps answer your questions."
i'm excited and looking forward to joining u all this fall! :)
