This is a new thread for anyone applying to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles. Please feel free to share, and discuss your application process with us.
There is also lots of information available through previous MSMC threads!
Good luck to everyone!
Thanks for all the input. I will definitely try again for the summer start date. I hope you guys get in, best of luck :)
Luckykim...there is also the CSUN program and other CSU's have accelerated programs too. Also, I saw that someone posted that some applicants get into MSMC without interviews, so maybe we still have some chance...
Textbooks for MSMC A-BSN Fall 2009
Hi everyone, I was enrolled in the summer program but had to withdraw due to unexpected financial hardship with my husband's business. I already bought all the textbooks + uniform. If you are accepted into the program, please help me and buy my textbooks? It will save you a lot of trouble. They will give you a whole page of required textbooks that cost $803.75 in the bookstore. It takes a long time to find all the books online, but you can buy the whole bundle from me for the cost I paid: $276.38.
Also I have the lab coat + top + pants for the uniform, all size XS, untailored. In total they costed $61. After you have your uniform fitting and determine your size, you can buy the set for $50. I wore the lab coat once to lab class for like an hour; the top/pants were never worn.
Good luck to all of you! Don't give up hope!
Thanks empresz. I really appreciate your input. I recalculated (forgot to calculate some summer course from years ago) my gpa and its actually 3.1. What i am worried about is the WU - unauthorized withdrawal grade. I've called the university where i took the class and it seems like i may not be able to retake or do anything about the WU grade since i took this undergraduate course AFTER i received my BS degree. This WU grade is counted as an F at the graduate level. Anyone know if MSMC will hold this against me? Without the WU grade i should have no problem fulfilling their requirements. Without the WU my gpa will be atleast 3.1 with the Wu my gpa will drop to like 1. Anyone have any experience with this? I can't get an answer from MSMC until june 16 when i go to their info session. I really hope MSMC will work with me on this.
I got accepted for this summer and it was my favorite school.. but I also got accepted nearer to my home in northern ca so went there.. I had taken general nutrition and they wanted nutrition for healthcare and they let me take it and finish early. I just had to have my teacher email that I had finished. They seemed very friendly and to work with you. The school is very organized ..
It's a bit of bad news but I called up the dept and found out you can only get admitted thru interview. This is after speaking to Joelle and she was very adamant that you NEED to interview in order to get in. There is no chance of getting in without an interview.
Since I haven't gotten an interview, I'm in this pool as well.
Sorry guys.
Yea I was really disappointed too. And I'm not sure who the others have been talking to but I've been calling Joelle directly and she's the one who handles the AccBSN apps. I think if people are calling the front desk, then they might be getting different info there but I felt it was quicker and more definite to go to the source ya know?
Apparently, they are still doing interviews though until mid-June. She said decisions would be out towards the end of the month.
Wishing all of us luck! But I'm already researching on where to reapply.
Hey PDX16,
I apologize for the late reply. To answer your question, I feel my interview went well. I was basically asked the same questions I had answered on the online application (why I chose nursing, my work experience, how I plan on thriving in an accelerated program, how I handle stress, etc.). Anne was extremely nice, and she made me feel really comfortable. I wasn't nervous at all.
Oh, and she did say how impressed she was with how I did in my science courses, and she even mentioned that students who do well in these classes typically do well in MSMC's ABSN program. As soon as she was done explaining the details of the program, she asked me if I had any questions, and of course, I did, so she answered all my questions. The interview lasted about 40 minutes or so, but the time went by real fast.
She did say that interviews would continue on this week, and maybe even the next week, so if you haven't gotten an interview yet, keep your head up! You may receive an email soon. Good luck to everyone!
People who did not get an interview e-mail, let's smile!!!
There are lots of schools we can re-apply! I already did.
Let's help each other~!! I will visit a new nursing school in L.A. tomorrow.
I assumed that MSMC get a new director for the nursing program this year. Therefore, I think the way they select or look at the applicant is slightly different from last previous cohorts! I think the grade is the matter for MSMC, too.
Oh!! Ms. Tanesha, assistant, was extremly nice. I won't forget about her in my life. She encouraged me and tried to help me out.
Let's smile~~!!
AND people who had an interview already, GOOD LUCK~!!
hey...I justed wanted to let everyone know that they are still doing interviews this week. I got an email yesterday and had the interview today. Anne went over my essay responses and told me about the program. She asked me why I wanted to pursue an Accelerated BSN and asked me to talk about a moral dilemma I have come across in my volunteer work. It was conversational. I was nervous but she was very friendly. The interview lasted about 40 minutes. She said that they would reach their decisions by mid-June. Ok hope that helps! Good luck :)

I feel the same with you, mary87c.
I lost my hope. I did not get an interview mail, neither.
I think I have to apply to other schools... If anyone knows about any schools, please let me know...

Everyone, best of luck!!!
