Starting the thread since I could only find Summer 2021z Has anyone applied to and/or gotten an admission decision from Mount Sinai PSON for their ABSN program starting Fall 2021? Where else did you apply? Share stats if comfortable, you know the drill! Thanks!
You are the best! Thanks, @lowlow09, for the encouragement. How does one go about becoming a hospital volunteer? Do they advertise those? Do I walk in and throw myself at someone?! heh heh. I'm compiling a list of ideas, and scribe is on it. I don't plan on giving up, although it is hard to remain hopeful!

I asked before and am not sure if I got a response.
I noticed that some people were taking classes through Portage. What is the reasoning for this and did the school require you to do so/did they recommend you to take it? I saw that some students were taking Pharmacology. Are there any other courses that people are taking through Portage now? Thanks so much
If you scroll back a few pages, you'll see that a current student recommended taking the course for credit in advance, only because it's a lot to combine with other intense courses during the first semester like Patho. Taking those courses in advance of the program start through Portage is completely optional.

I have 2 prereqs in progress and I have little healthcare experience (I.e. I volunteered at a hospital during undergrad for a semester/semester and a half). My cum GPA is about a 3.26 and I have a prereq GPA of 3.75. Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far and good luck to those still waiting!
Congratulations!! So happy for you! If you have facebook you should join the facebook group under the name Mount Sinai ABSN fall 2021

Most programs have phato and pharm spread out. Mount Sinai has students taking both during the same semester. This can put a strain on students and one student who is currently in the program suggested we take at least one of those courses because those who didn’t in previous cohorts failed out of the program. Me personally, I asked Mr. Lee if I can take courses on portage and he said yes they’ll accept it. I’m currently taking patho, ethics, & nutrition through portage. It all depends on the individual. If you feel like you can handle the rigorous course work during your first semester then you don’t have to take patho or pharm beforehand. If you want to be able to just focus on the nursing courses & enjoy a little freedom, I suggest you take a least one if not both. Also portage isn’t the only places you can take these classes. Do research. I took most of my prerequisite courses through University of Rochester School of Nursing program (they don’t offer patho or pharm though).

Thank you for replying to me. And from what I understand, Portage is self-paced right?
@J LI think it depends on the person. There is A LOT of material for each course. It certainly wouldn't be enjoyable. You'd have to alternate taking a module test from each course almost every day in order to finish on time. You'd def have to take some weekend tests. That being said if you were willing to dedicate all of your time I think it is doable. With the exception, of Chemistry, I've found the content of the courses to be well laid out. Only for Chemistry did I need to spend a lot of time watching Youtube videos to understand the material. For every other course there was a lot of information but the tests seem fair. They record you so you can't cheat. They are mostly multiple choice questions with a few essays thrown in. With a few exceptions the question are pretty straight forward. That being said I'm only 3 modules into Pharm and Patho so I can't vouch for how difficult it gets. You can get your money back (minus $50, I think) if you quit within one month and have only take module one exam. I'd verify that but that was the rule not long ago.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your input : ) I think if anything, I'll just take on one course to lessen the stress load.

DO NOT FEEL DISCOURAGED! Please whatever you do, do not lose hope. Somethings I recommend are working as a scribe at a medical office or volunteering at a hospital. I know with COVID there hasn't been much on site volunteer but some hospitals allow virtual volunteer. CPR/AED is good too.
