Mothers in Nursing School

Published

Hey,

Just wanted to get some tips/advice from some of you mothers out there who are in nursing school. My son is 2 years old and I have him set up with day care through Tinker AFB . But as we all know, a little sign of diarrhea and a temp over 100.1 means they must be picked up and can not return for 24 hrs from being picked up! Kind of extreme, huh? Unfortunately we do not live near any family and we just moved to Oklahoma so, really, no close friends either. What reliable resources do you guys have as far as the day care situation?

I am not a mother, so I don't really have any advice but I commend all mothers who are able to raise a family and be successful in nursing school. It is very hard work. The only way I know how the mothers are doing it is with family help or either alternating work schedules with the husband. Finding a good alternate day care that you trust is a must. Now is definitely the time to start searching. good luck

It is extremely helpful to have a daycare that you feel comfortable with. I'm from Bartlesville, moved to Tulsa with my mom when I was like 12, and have moved back to Bartlesville with my daughter (father has never been in the picture and won't ever be if I have my way about it). I will be commuting 5 days a week and am extremely fortunate to have my dad and stepmom helping me just a litttle bit (going to keep my daughter thurs and fri mornings when clinicals start). Anyway, point is, you need to have a go to sitter other than your daycare just for emergencies...because you never know when the daycare is going to have a problem. Mine will be 3 this month and it's going to be a challenge, but I will get through it, as will you :)

I posted on another thread "mommies in ns", but thought I'd duplicate here. In the okc area (moore, edmond, yukon, midwest city, etc) there is a sitting service called seeking sitters. I hope they are in your area. Maybe they would be helpful in a fix. http://www.seekingsittersoklahomacity.com/

Good Luck!

There is also a service called "love my sitter" that I've heard great things about. I honestly don't know much beyond that because I have several family members nearby who know that I can't miss class for a sick kiddo, and they will be there asap if needed. GL to you! I'd recommend a sitter personally, but all of my wonderful sitters have started full time jobs so they aren't available daytime anymore :(
