Hi,
I am about to graduate and I have accept a residency position in mother baby (I enjoyed this unit but it's not where my heart truly is). I did not get an offer in the NICU or Peds where I applied but I wanted to know if this will close those doors for me? I have always loved working with children and my 1 day in the NICU I loved.
My nursing program did not have a peds rotation and due to me being pregnant my last semester I could not travel to peds hospital for my capstone. I think I would enjoy peds more since I would get to interact with the children but I'm not sure how possible that is having a position in mother baby. I have read other posts similar to mine comparing them which is leading me towards peds.
I have a 2 yr contract but if available and approved I can move to other units and still be under contract. I do not believe the hospital has a peds floor since they have a sister hospital that is solely a pediactric hospital. Should I take the NICU opening if ever available or wait the 2 years and try for the pediatric hospital?

I am in this exact same position, and wondering the same thing! Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

You do not have a nicu or peds offer, mother baby does include infants and certain issues will be treated in the nursery before being transferred to the nicu such as bilirubin, glucose issues. You can wait it out for wither nicu or peds because non of them have anything for you right now.
