Advice from all you Nurses! :-) I am a new grad nurse who have been working in a busy city level 2 trauma center ER for two months now.......recently i got an email from a nurse recruiter from other hospital who wants to set up an interview next week for ER per-diem position. The nurse recruiter saw my LinkedIn profile then emailed me....so im pretty sure he is aware that i am a new grad nurse?
The question is should i go or no??????
Im currently working full-time in my ER as a new grad and i still have 2 more months left for my orientation.....ive always wanted to work at that hospital and have a per-diem ER position at some point but i thought it would be too soon to have one?!! In the meantime, i want to keep in touch with the nurse recruiter so maybe later i can contact him.
Would you give me some advice for me??
Should i at least go for the interview and let them know im a new grad and see what they can offer me??
Thank you! :-)

Are you interested in a per diem position? You could always email the recruiter and ensure he/she is aware that you're not even off of orientation yet -- might be a good idea so no one's time is wasted.
Yes i am interested in having a per-diem position especially in ER! :-) But i thought it would be too soon when im not even done with my full-time job orientation.....unless the nurse recruiter is aware..which im sure he is because he found me on LinkedIn...

Just be aware that per-diem hires are expected to hit the ground running. With 2 months to go on orientation, i think it would be very dangerous to be on your own in a per-diem gig.
And any hospital willing to hire you for this position now is waving am armful of red flags.

I would not be sure he's aware, recruiters rarely understand the details, they are looking for an X, and think they found an X, done, get 'em to interview and move on with a nice commission check.... In this case it's an ER nurse. I would suggest since you have said your interested, you contact the recruiter and let them know you wouldn't feel comfortable interviewing at this time, but you will be interested and would like to interview for per diem ER positions starting.... They will keep your name on file, and be pestering you as soon as they think you are going to possibly be willing to interview.

It is far too soon, which is why I suggested you email and clarify.

Really posting because I enjoyed the post title. I pictured a two month old new grad.
2 months into orientation, you don't even know that you like, or are cut out for, ER nursing. I would give it time.
Also, as a per-diem, you really want to have a good grasp on things. I work only per-diem and travel. Existing staff isn't all that keen on investing a bunch of time on training a per-diem. Go into it when you have some well deserved confidence.

My advice... stay where you are and get some experience! Especially if you like where you are working already.

Im loving every minute of being in ER and my current job. And i was told by preceptors and nurses that im ready and very much cut out for ER nursing.......so i decided to concentrate finishing my orientation in my current job for now and contact the nurse recruiter at per-diem job later......im very excited and soooo looking forward to future opportunities to come when i am done with my new grad orientation and more......ER nursing is the best!!
