Which smartphone would you recommend?

  1. I just found out that on 5/14 I can upgrade my Cingular phone so I'm getting smartphone. I've narrowed it down to:

    Samsung Blackjack
    Nokia E62
    Cingular 8125
    Blackberry Pearl
    Palm Treo 680 or 750

I think I'm leaning more towards one of the Treo's. Has anyone had any experience with any of these smartphones? I start the RN program in a couple of weeks.

I WAS actually really looking forward to getting the pearl for mothers day but when I went today the salesman was telling someone that the pearl is really only good for email, text etc. no stylus. He ws recomminding the treo and I had just realized that that was what I was getting, same palm platform that I am used to and has stylus and touch screen ability. that's the only 2 i am familiar with, good luck

I have a Palm Treo 700p for Verizon and have been very happy with it. I do not use it for email or data because of the expense except in an emergency. However, I don't need email much during the day anyway. I do however, use the PDA/phone, calendar daily, many times per day and it is fine.

Don't get a Cingular brand PDA.

First, they won't insure them...Yeah...so if you drop and break your $350 phone, you are SOL.

Second, the tech support s-u-c-k-s. When I got my phone, it didn't work...3 hours on the phone with tech support. The e-mail always dropped "offline" and I had more than one representative to admit that they don't receive any specialized training on the PDA's. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard the rep say, "Does anyone here have one of the _____".

They also, to my surprise, didn't sell the CAR charger to go with it. I had to find it online somewhere else. The $40 battery went dead after only 5 months and when it was working, the life on it was 1/2 of what they said it was.

Needless to say, it was a horrible experience.

wow, scratch the Cingular brand off of my list... thanks

I have another quick question for those of you w/smartphones. Can I just use the wifi w/o being charged or do I have to get a internet package? I have wireless at home, will have it at school and believe that the hospital I will be doing clinicals in has it as well.

Thanks so much for all of the great help so far.

Oh, and another thing about PDA's. This can apply to any brand.

You know how when you are driving and need to make a phone call you can "feel" the numbers on the buttons so you don't really need to look at the numbers to see what you are dialing? Well, when I got the Cingular 8125, it had a touch screen, and it drove me nuts.

The good thing about the PDA's, is most of them now have bluetooth, and the wireless earbuds are AMAZING. I use mine all the time, and people say they can't tell the difference between my taking directly in the phone and with the earbud. The earbuds will keep their charge for about 1 1/2 days, and they fully charge in only 20 minutes...so I do mine each morning when I'm in the shower if I forget to hook it up before I got to bed.

Most of the internet packages are $40 per month...that includes unlimited web surfing and e-mail. I would highly recommend a g-mail account because they have FREE POP accounts, while Yahoo and I think AOL charges extra for theirs.

I just got back from checking out phones at the Cingular store. I'm almost positive that I'm getting a Treo. I do love the look of the Blackberrys though.

The Blackberry's don't have a stylus which can make things cumbersome (my sister has one and that's what she said). The Treo 700p though more expensive is well worth it. Make sure you get a case - I have a metal one and then I also had a plastic bendable one - didn't like it though.

I don't see the Treo 700p as an option on Cingular. I can get either the 680 or 750. On Cingular.com the 680 is $200 w/upgrade and the 750 is $300 but on letstalk.com w/upgrade the 680 is free and the 750 is only $150.
That's a huge savings! Now I just have to decide if I want to spend the $ and get the 750 or go with the free 680.

I'm sure you are right - it seems as though the Treo has different models for different companies.

I have the 680 and LOVE it ! I would be so lost without my calendar, Epocrates, calculator, etc.etc.
