I bought a PDA on Ebay

  1. I should get it in the next day or 2. It is now wifi ready but I can but I can add a wifi card?? What does that mean? How much do they cost?

I leaped too fast. I am not too sure how all of this will work and using the internet wifi will only be an occassional thing so this may not be a problem?? I don't know.

I forgot to say it is a HP iPaq rz1710. I should have done my research first. But what kind of programs can I load onto it?
Will the Palm programs work or no?
Sorry I don't know a thing about this stuff.

Hi! By this time you probably received your pda from e-bay. While I can't tell you about the wi-fi, I can tell you that I don't think you can use palm programs with the pda you bought. They are two different operating systems. If you buy from Skyscape, you'll see the choice for palm and pda.
I also bought my pda from e-bay (palm T/E) and just like you, the minute I ordered it, I started fretting. Not enough reseach, too much money, blah, blah, blah. I have to tell you, I'd die without it and all the fretting was for naught. You'll get used to the brand you bought and you'll wonder how you ever did without it. Good luck.

Thanks for replying. I am still trying to figure this thing out but have been reading and learning alot. I will get the hang of it.

I think I will really need a more up to date one soon. I would like the phone/pda but that will have to do for now.

You can only use pocket PC programs.

I personally wouldn't waste the money on wifi again if it were me. But if you really want it you can add a wifi card in a SD card or a Flash card slot. You can find them on www.newegg.com or www.zipzoomfly.com

Congrats on the purchase of your PDA. I'm sure by now you have received the unit.

I posted kinda of a long reply to the wi-fi/bluetooth question in another thread on this forum that explains the technology, and if you need the option.

In regards to the Palm application, the answer as you may now know is NO.

Today there are basically 2 types of operating systems for the PDA, the PALM OS, and Windows Mobile. The easiest way to explain this is PC and MAC. They both do the same thing, but each other can not run the same application. Your IPAQ is running an older version of the Windows Mobile operating system from Microsoft. I believe that it is Windows Mobile 2003 Second edition. The current system is windows mobile 5.0

That being said, you should still be able to run almost any application that is designed for windows mobile, or pocket pc.

I would suggest that you rational why you want wi-fi and instead of buying the card, buy a storage card to increase the memory of your unit. You'll find with today's applications that it will fill up very quickly.

hope that helps, and doesn't send you back to fretting!
