mneumonics for orientation and directional terms

Published

Has anyone got a mneumonic or two that would help me remember all the directional and regional terms plus body planes and sections?

I'm heading into chapter 14 of Human Anatomy by Marieb and still have to review most of the terms every single time I run across them in the text book.

superior--cranial

inferior--caudal

anterior--ventral

posterior--dorsal--easy since I think of the dorsal fin of a fish

medial

lateral

intermediate

proximal

distal

superficial--external

Deep--internal

PLANES OF THE BODY

Frontal

Transverse

median--midsagittal

parasagittal

As they say in Hawaii Mahalo (thanks),

superior-above or toward the head

inferior-below or toward the tail

anterior--ventral- front of the body

posterior--dorsal--easy since I think of the dorsal fin of a fish- back of the body

medial-toward the middle

lateral-opposite of above-away from the middle

intermediate dont know

proximal-closer to the point of attachment (knuckle is proximal to fingertip)

distal-opposite of above-more distant to the point of attachment (fingertip is distal to a knuckle)

superficial--external or toward the outside of the body

Deep--internal or toward the inside of the body

PLANES OF THE BODY

Frontal divides the body into front and back portions

Transverse divides the body into top and bottom portions

median--midsagittal divides the body into left and right portions

parasagittal don't know sorry

These are terms you will have to memorize. I made notecards and kept studing them until I knew them by heart.
