The "LA TIMES" is currently running an indept report about MLK hospital which I think everyone in healthcare should read. Go to http://www.latimes.com
[you may have to register to access Sunday (part 1 - Deep Trouble), Monday (part 2 - Poverty Myth), and Tuesday (part 3 - Unheeded Warnings)] Today's article (part 4) is "How Whole Departments Fail Hospital Patients - A culture of mismangement pervades nursing, orthopedic surgery, residents' training and the pharmacy."
This is a healthcare nightmare for the poor or underinsured and (as you will see from the finanical statements) a drain on public/taxpayors dollars. Stephen King couldn't have written a better horror story.

I read this article, plus others, from a link at Yahoo yesterday. You are right Gomer, what is written in these series of articles is utterly, completely shocking. I could not even imagine a worse hospital. I could not believe a place like this could even exist in the US.

Can you believe this place? When I first applied to the US they were trying to place me in LA, this was one of the hospitals recruiting UK nurses. Thankfully, didn't take them up on it. My heart goes out to the people who have no choice but to be treated there. It seems to me they would have to shut the place down and start over. Appalling.
