Hospitals East of St. Louis?

My husband lives in Alton and per the website, Alton Memorial has openings - unsure if they are for new grads or not.

I live in Illinois but I work in Missouri. I know our hospital [st. Anthony's Medical Center] has posted positions and is usually 'friendly' to new grads. You might take a look at the list and see if anything catches your eye. Best of luck in your search!

Belleville, Il. has two hospitals. Memorial and St. Elizabeth's. They both have websites that list their employment opportunities and are located about 15 minutes from the Poplar Street Bridge. Good luck with your search.

I have been hearing a lot of commercials about Anderson Hospital. And I am ashamed to say that I have know idea where it is in Illinois.

It is in Maryville, IL. about 20 mins from downtown St. Louis.

I just recently heard that Memorial Hospital in Belleville has achieved Magnet status -- that might make it a good place to try.

Anderson must not pay too shabby either cuz I know a lot of people that left their jobs at Barnes and DePaul and other places to go to Anderson.

just accepted a job at st. elizabeth's in belleville as a new grad in the residency program...where did you end up looking at jobs?

I just did this job search last year.

The hospitals on the East Side that hire new nurses are primarily Gateway Regional Medical Center and Alton Memorial.

Alton Memorial is a BJC facility. They're decent enough to work for.

Gateway is owned by Community Health Systems. I left after four months. I wouldn't recommend it as a first experience. Other people in my nursing class started there and left just as quickly as they could.

St. Elizabeth's in Belleville has a nursing residency, but it's very tough to get. Totally worth it to apply there.

Belleville Memorial and Anderson (in Maryville) don't hire new nurses. Kenneth Hall in East St. Louis also doesn't seem to hire new nurses.

I haven't checked out Touchette Hospital in Centreville, and would never apply there.

I don't much about St. Anthony's/St. Clare's in Alton, except they don't have many positions listed on their website.

If you want to go further out, Washington County Hospital in Nashville, Illinois will hire new nurses and Greenville Regional Hospital in Greenville will also hire new nurses.

Memorial in Belleville does hire new grads. I believe they too have a residency program . Magnet status basically just means more paper work as far as I'm concerned. But, Memorial's standard of care far exceeds St. Elizabeth's. I know, I have worked at both. St. E's has a serious issue with understaffing. Which is setting someone up for failure. Memorial, on the other hand, has tons of employees that stay and stay for a very long period of time. Nurse/Patient ratios are pretty good and they try to keep that in mind to promote safe care.These are things that should be considered when applying as a new grad. Just because they promise you a sign on bonus and tell you that the residency program is "hard to get into" doesn't mean it's true. Those are tactics to get you to sign on. I heard Granite City is no walk in the park to work at...And East St. Louis basically is just an unsafe area to drive into to go to work. Mind you these are just my opinions. :smokin:
