I've posted before about moving to biloxi and have had some replies. I guess i screwed up sending PM's or maybe the people i have PM'd have been busy....anyway i have a position at garden park hospital on a med-telemetry floor 7a-7p, beginning in august. new house will close the end of july in north biloxi. I guess i am still looking for input about the area. is this garden park a good hospital (looks nice, only 5 years old) what areas of biloxi would be good ones to tour or do things (ship island etc...) what areas should i avoid. what do you love/dislike about the area. also is there PRN work available at other hospitals?

thanks

I am a nursing student/cna in biloxi. I've been looking at Garden Park myself- there's actually a cna opening on the med/tele floor. I've only heard good things about it from a few different people. Sorry I can't give you an experienced opinion but I will say that my grandmother passed away there last year and she was taken great care of.

As far as the coast goes, it's nice at first. There are all the casinos so lots of entertainment comes through, the colliseum is being doubled in size (big controversy around here a couple of months ago) so that should bring us more things to do. Ship Island is nice, New Orleans isn't far to spend the day. If you're moving to north biloxi you won't be far from anything, everything to do is mostly along the beach. That's the negative though. The beach. It's pretty from far away but if you want to swim in the ocean I would suggest driving the three hours to Destin (but watch out for sharks over there right)

Welcome to Mississippi. I know very little about the Biloxi area, coming from the Central part of the state, but I do know about Biloxi Regional Medical Center, a sister hospital to the one where I work owned by HMA and HMA is a pretty good group to work for. Also, Singing River just received a Top 100 hospitals designation.

I love Mississippi and hope you do too!

You poor...poor soul! I saw you posted this last year do you still work at GPH? I did a travel assignment there in Oct. We may have run into each other if you were still there after the storm. I HATED IT! It was the most miserable nursing experience of my life. If you still log on here let me know how you like it. ~ Andrea

yes i still like it here. hubby had a job at the hard rock casino that never opened....but they paid him thru november and he got a job at the ip. i started working at ocean springs hospital on sept 12th and love it there. i work with really good nurses, i can't brag on them enough. i ve only been nursing 18 months and they are helpful and like mentors. house did fine. minor roof damage minor siding damage and privacy fence down...no flooding thank god. do you still live in the area or were you travel nursing here?

Do you know the CEO's name at Biloxi Regional Hospital? Anyone?
