New Grad LPN pay!

U.S.A. Mississippi

Published

I was looking around on the LPN boards and noticed that someone put new grad pay in Mississippi is $9 an hour:uhoh21: This was back in 2005 but still please tell me this is not true! I heard it was more like $13-$14 an hour depending on where you work.

I've never heard of $9 an hour for LPN. I've heard of that for CNA, but usually CNA's are higher than that.

I graduated last May and have worked in the Jackson area,,3p-11p in LTC, ALF and an OP addiction facility and all of them paid $16 per hour. Too bad I havent found my 'niche' yet, so the money hasn't mattered,,I just want to find something I enjoy. :o

I forgot to mention,,,I saw an advert for an LPN job at a local clinic associated with one of the hospitals,,base pay,,,,,,$8.40!!!!!!!!!!

While it's not all about the money,,deargawddddddd,,how is one supposed to survive on that? I suppose if one was not the breadwinner of the family it might be ok,,but still.:uhoh21:

Yeah no kidding! That is slap in the face! Thanks for the reply!

Well, it isn't for the money, but that's not but a few cents better than working at Walmart. I highly doubt your skills would be put to good use, either.

Better to look elsewhere.

OMY where did you get your stats from, no way, lpn pay in ms is way better than that, i have never even heard an offer that low, someone is feeding you some crap. I am in tupelo, ms and here LPN pay in a clinic is 13 and over, my friend makes 16hr in a clinic, ltc 18.00hr. some pay 15.oo hr. most is more, hospice 16.50 starting , some may be a little less, psych 17.25 starting pay for my friend, hospital 13.oo hr. . home health 15.oo + . hope this helps,

I got my information about the low pay scale from having been interviewed by the prospective employer, whom I doubt was 'feeding me' a bunch of crap.

As I stated in my previous post, I've made between $16-$18-that includes diff for evenings and or nights. I've worked ALF, OP Rehab Facility and LTC. Yes, I too have ''friends' that tell me they started out new making $11-$13 in a medical clinic.Tupelo, Biloxi, Meridian, Jackson, everyone pays differently. Maybe I need to move to Tupelo. Beautiful trip up the Trace in the Fall.

And pay is getting better for LPN's in Mississippi.

Two recent LPN grads, with no experience, were hired at a local rehab for $19.50 an hour. The LPN pay at that facility is almost $21 for experienced LPN's, and some of the work is in a regular walk-in clinic.

So I'm pretty sure a facility paying super low wages will find out soon enough that they can't get anyone to work for that wage.

Specializes in acute, med/surg/ER/geri/CPR instructor.

LPN pay is not that great. Here at my hospital I often do the same work and take report on the same pts. the RN just had. I have been a nurse for 13 years and my base is just 18.13/hour and the diffs are not great. But instead of complaining, I'll be starting Rn school in Jan.(my hospital just implemented tuition reimbursment):balloons:

hey, i wasn't meaning your post i was meaning to midestiny. lol sorry for offending you. :)

I live in Biloxi, MS. After attending several interviews, this is what I learned as the LPN pay for 2007...

Long term care: Day $16.25-$17.00/hr Night position $18.00-$18.50/hr (plus 16 hours overtime per month due to 12hr rotation schedules)

Hospitals: $12-14/hr

Clinics: $12-14/hr

Mental Institutions: $17hr plus 16 hours overtime per month

If you live close to Slidell, LA, I heard that the pay is between $22-26/hr depending on the facility and experience.

Hope this helps.
