U.S.A. Mississippi

I am really freaked out right about now I have been stressing trying to get into nursing programs for the fall and it is very overwhelming. I wanted to know what are my chances of getting into the nursing program with a 18 ACT score and a C gpa average.. I have also applied for the lpn program at Hinds and Co-Lin but my first choice is Holmes since it is closer to me and I have been hearing great things about the school.. Can someone PLEASE help me???

I think that if you work really hard, and are super dedicated, you can get through the nursing program. In my experience, I found that it's not always about knowing the answer, so much as it is going the extra mile to find it. I think that you need to be prepared to work hard to get and "A," because there's always a chance that you won't. I don't know anyone that passed nursing school who only worked hard enough to get a C. Many people that worked hard enough to get an A, actually got C's. (Make sense?) Anyway, I hope that you go for it if it's what you really want to do. Good luck! ;)

I graduated from the Holmes LPN program in June. I had a 20 on the ACT. I was an alternate and I did get in. The program is absolutely the best. I cannot say enough good things about it. The instructors are truly amazing. Now, it was not easy by any stretch of the imagination but believe me it was so worth it. I feel like I am a good nurse and I was very well prepared when I graduated. Best of luck to you.

Congrats to u!! I am praying so hard to get into the program but kinda doubting because of my low gpa and I know how competitive the school is but Im not giving up. How was the compass test was it basic math and reading and how long was it before you were notified that you were an alternate in the program?

Does anyone have any information on the compass test that is given on Ridgeland Campus for the LPN program? Is there alot of algebra on the test?

AJ1715 how did you do on the compass test?

Hey devine87, I scored Reading (98), Writing (88), algebra (80) and (78) as you can see algebra is my weakest subject., those two scores are for pre-algebra and algebra.

Good Luck on your test, I'm sure your gonna do great!!!

Wow!! My scores dont even compare to that but overall I did do ok.. What were your ACT scores like and what campus did you apply at?

My ACT score is not good, 18. My GPA is low too 2.53 overall and 3.5 . I'm pretty sure I want be getting in. They are only accepting 30 out of the 480, so the ones that get in will be the cream of the crop...lol. Good Luck to you!!

Dont be discourage you never know.. I had a 19 on my ACT I kept getting a 18 and finally the last time my score went up.. I had orginally applied to the Ridgeland campus but switched once I found out how many applicants were applying.. I think that they accept a little over 30 students in because a girl who attended once said she went to orientation and she knows for sure that there were more than 30 students there for orientation.. Have faith in yourself and good luck to you also!!

Im kind of worried about getting into the program as I know they look at human a&p I and II along with the other classes.. I had to repeat those classes because I started out taking them my freshman year in college and joked around but later turned around and did well.. I was wandering how would this affect my chances of getting into the nursing program..

I have the same situation. I took A&P I and everyone in the class was failing not just me. We had a horrible teacher. I did not withdraw in time so when I did withdraw I had an F on my record. The next time I took it under a different teacher and made a B. I had a C in A&P II. That was over 10 years ago. I have given up trying to figure out how they admit people. I know they only pick 30 so I figure my chances are slim and none. I don't know how many took the Compass, but I figure there has to be 30 people that either have better scores on the compass, a better ACT or better A&P scores than me. They also take people with medical experience into consideration and I know they were desperately seeking males for the program. I have pretty much given up and decided that I have to look at other options. I have already applied for the ADN twice and was rejected both times. I am considering doing the CNA program so maybe that will help. I am not young and I feel like my dream is slipping away. It is a long time to wait another year to apply just to get rejected again.
