Hey all- well, Monday starts the big day: CLINICAL 1. We have to take a doseage test (which I'm pretty nervous about because I'm still scratching my head about how I got a B in doseage) and then we go.

My questions are these:

Anyone ever go to Marion Care Center?

And I'm not naming names here but my clinical instructor is beyond what you'd call a "hard a " apparently she has failed more students out of clinical than any other one. I understand one must be tough when teaching people how to take care of others...but is there not a point in which tough love becomes demeaning? When we tested out for lung sounds, I had the whole routine down- shebang. She passed me, but not before telling me that I pretty much was incompetent. Why? Because the way we were taught via Pepper was different than how she wanted us to do it. How were we supposed to know?

One girl was like "yeah she DOESN'T want people to succeeed. She LIKES to fail people." I've heard her test other people out...she's quite abraisive indeed. SO THAT SAID...rather than piss and moan about it, do any of you have any suggestions? How do I do this, how do I please/find out how to please a person like that?

Three things: know what you're doing, show her that you do know what you're doing, and kiss her a$$. It's unnerving and very stressful when instructors seem like they are playing head games with you, isn't it. I may know who you are talking about and if memory serves, that's the only way to get through it. You can do it. :)

Hi!

Can You Please Tell Me What Time You Went To Clinical And How Many Hours A Day Is Clinical

Thanks

At SPTC they don't give you a choice whether or not you go to day clinical or night clinical. I was a night clinical person, so that had me on from 2-10pm. It was monday through thursday. If you go during the day you'll be there M-F 6:50am to 1 or 1:30. Are you going to be in clinical this semester?

Thanks for your help. I register for Pharmacology, fundamental, psychosocial , med-surg 1 and clinical 1. Right now I am workind at United as a nursing assistant day/eve, I am trying to see if I can only work eve. I have to apply for an evening position which I am going for an interview this thursday, now I am thinking if I get the position, it will be easier for me to have clinical during the day instead. That 's weird they don't give you a choice, I remember when I took my nursing assistant course at Hennepin tech, they had us writing if we wanted day or evening and you tell them why.

Good luck on your drug test it's not too bad. It is kinda like the final from dosage.

I graduated in 2002 and we still call SPTC the school of "Hard Knocks" but you really do learn. If you come to clinical prepared for example know your meds, the pt's plan of care and what kind of outcomes you should be looking for you will be fine. You should also know what type of tx your pt has so you can be prepared to preform the skill.

And by the way keep your test out skills "textbook" and you will be fine. They can't say bad things if your by the book!
