Hey guys and gals,

who out there has any experience as a military reserve nurse who also is a travel nurse? I would like to know how you manage unit duties in relation to contracts? Also, how do you select contracts? Is it based on distance from your assigned unit or do you just travel back for drill weekends no matter the distance? Have you ran into any problems areas with this style of nursing? Are the two compatable?

Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance :)

It is common to specify needed days off in a travel contract. I would recommend discussing your commitments in your initial interview with your unit manager. After that, it should just be travel logistics on those dates for which a personal assessment is called for (better to do that prior to your submission to a facility and subsequent interview).
