Midwife prescription privileges

Hi. Just a curious question. Someone

Told me that their midwife prescribed them

Medical marijuana for hyperemesis.. Do they really have these kind of privileges? She lives in WA that's why I ask here.

Thanks for answering my question!

Some states have reclassified cannibinoids as Schedule II drugs, and as midwives can prescribe this class of drugs, I don't see why not, so long as your state has been able to reclassify medical marijuana (from Schedule I to Sch. II). But I believe medical marijuana is still only state law approved, not federal, so a prescriber may not have any problems with state laws but could face federal charges, although I don't believe these are really pushed.

I don't know how much is understood as far as fetal side effects of this drug...I am curious as to why she prescribed it and not something else, unless all other options failed.

According to this person, they exhausted all other options. My concern is how she is using it. Big hit off of a bong? That sounds like a bit much. But I'm not a provider. I'm only a student. I just keep thinking about the effects on the fetus. She is only 10w. I am wondering, in the long run, if the use of it, considering she is smoking it, will cause the baby to have asthma or other such problems? Or could? I am assuming that the smoke and THC would pass to the fetus. But again, i'm just asking. Also wouldn't the mother inhaling smoke take away oxygen from the baby?

These are hypothetical questions. I love learning and I'm trying to critically think about this. I was stunned about this and couldn't think of a better place to ask. I appreciate you taking the time to answer me! Thank you so much!
