Thoughts about Neurosurgical/ MS-ICU

I have been a nurse since 2010 in Cardiovascular/Tele Unit. We have a mentoring program for new grads when I started and my mentor brought up "i think you are ready to move to ICU setting" i told her that i don't think I am ready yet....but she strongly believes i am ready and brought up my strong points as a nurse i.e assessments, critical thinking, organization and time management, interpersonal skills etc etc. She gave me the list of the open position in our neurosurgical/MS-ICU and reminded me to turn in my transfer request. Any thoughts of going to ICU? I am nervous, anxious...scared. I did my senior preceptorship in ICU/CCU unit....it was overwhelming. I was contemplating and i want to explore other field of nursing but i am scared...nervous...and anxious. Please help.

If you aren't ready then don't go. A good supervisor wouldn't push you into something like that if you don't feel ready. You sound genuinely scared about it and if it made you hate nursing before, going into it now when you are already so apprehensive will probably make you feel just the same.

What specifically makes you nervous? I did 1.5 years on a med/tele floor and I just started in the MSICU this March. Very nerve-wracking at first, but after my 12-week orientation I felt way more comfortable.

everyone has to find what they like. I love ICU, hated ms... its all a matter of personality... I couldnt take it in ER. Think about what you like about nursing, and what you dont. I didnt feel like I had enough bedside time in ms or er, so ICU was perfect for me.
