2 yrs ago, I was one of those floor nurses who had to pray every day for strength just to get going to work. The task lists, patient care and expectations were numerous and lenghty. I fought long and hard to be accepted to an ICU position, and finally got one. It took just a few months to realize that this was no picnic, but every time I think back on how much my legs ached, and how exhausted I was leaving work on a medsurg floor, I remain thankful. Maybe we all should pause occasionally to survey from whence we've come, and then the downsizing, staff deficit, ardous tasks, and personality issues might not be so difficult to manage.
